Ati Video Cards...catalyst

Sometimes you hate it sometimes....
After seeing that smart bomb topic about scorpians that hovar last day i doubted that something can suprise me today......But something happened.......I was really angry about that radeon 9500 vid card that i bought lately ..... Many games dont play as they were suposed to play....and o ther weird stuff....The most awful thing were the skybox lines in quake 3 arena ......really pi**ed me off.And this uber cool TRUFOR feature sux0red so much....on my celeron 2 ghz ns was running 10 fps with trufor on, without trufor 90 fps.Recently i upgraded catalyst to 3.4 and noticed that i couldnt manage trufor settings now , but thx to the almighty it stayed off after the upgrade....Till i downloaded geekplay and watched some eu vs usa demos...OMG was choppy like **** trufor put itself on (have no fking idea how) and i was watching a slide show of a demo.....Terrified i launched ns, joined a random server and.....guess what ....trufor was on everything looked GREAT and i had STILL VERY good stable 90 fps !! THAT WAS A Shock....With trufor ns looks like a NEW GAME......but i have no idea what geekplay has done to my vid card settings......and i think i will never know the answer.......btw 23.04 i think im gonna go to sleep happy now . Baaah another mistake...not sleep , HoVar ....with ScOrpIaNs......

did you upgrade your drivers? Radeon still sux but with them it sux less
you have to do a very thorough removal of the nVIDIA drivers
AND Registry entries.
I went through the same thing but I'm glad I did because my
9000 Pro rules
Oh and don't forget to download the ATI control Panel for your
Catalysts. It gives you alot of control and what is being loaded.
Everything from v-sync to TrueForm?
I've got a Radeon 9500 Pro, myself, and can play NS just fine at 1600x1200x32, with TruForm enabled, at over 70fps. Take off the TF and it jumps to a solid 100. And that's on an Athlon 1.4 T-bird system with SDR.
Dunno what Geekplay does to the configs that'd slow it down THAT much, as I've never used it. Just played the demos from inside HL, from the console.
Though the NS models look better with TF enabled, I'm still wanting to see a model pack put out that's optimized for TF... it's easy to cut out the 'ballooning' effect that currently happens with turret factories and armories, and wouldn't cause any noticable size increase or performance hit. Haven't done it myself as I don't have a full copy of Milkshape, nor do I know how to unweld vertices (you unweld vertices along an edge you want to be a sharp corner with TF on).
As an aside, anyone know of a good way to import/export HL models into Maya for easier working? THAT I could do it in, in a few seconds. But the only method I know of for transferring in loses the skeletons and animation associations.
btw, its' TRUFORM not TRUFOR

i'll try 3.1 and see if it does anything better
I'm still getting chomps, DAMN
In the ready room, my FPS floats around a solid 100. But, when I join the game, the FPS maxes at 40 or so, and when I look at clusters of marine or alien buildings, the frame rate drops the lowest (down to 5fps at times), and the alien hives are missing several polygons as well. Also, at times, whole polygons on large walls will just dissapear and re-appear at random, this especialy happens in ns_nancy when you walk from the marine start to the mess hall, just before entering the door. Does anybody know why it does this or how to fix it? It's realy bothering the **** out of me.
Nvidia=Good driver support and they useally have the best stuff out first. Iv had relighablity problems with ATi in the past.

Great... more flames. And another locked topic. Do we really need more ATI vs. GeForce threads? I kinda like this board because of the flame free topics.
