A useful way to wait for more players
Waiting for more players to join your pub game? Rather than bunny-hop about the ready room, try taking an opportunity to practice these "Vanilla Drills" to improve your skill. This only works with 2 or more players.
Marines: Build an IP and armory. That's it. If you have more than one player, all of you go grunt (no commander) and move about the map, engage any aliens/chambers you see immediately. Concentrate on squad movement tactics (room by room clearing, keeping 360 degree visibility) and covering fire. To keep these drills moving, no spawn camping.
Aliens: Lay out as many resource chambers as possible, the whole map if you can. Don’t put out any other structures besides nodes. Then go skulk (or lerk) and keep these nodes alive for as long as possible. No spawn camping. If you rush the marine base and kill all the marines there, move on. Don’t attack marine structures.
If any new players join in while the drill is going on, inform them of that you’re in the midst of a practice drill. Try to keep the drills relatively short, 15 minutes to 30 minutes, to ensure that you don’t bore any unwitting players, and keep the pub free for “serious” games.
Vanilla Drills are a great way to improve FPS and tactical skills, without worrying over the strategy required of a typical NS game.
