How many buildings and weapons per class are there

biobrainbiobrain Join Date: 2002-02-18 Member: 224Members
I was just wondering since nobody has really mentioned the numbers. Here's a few questions.
How many weapons do marines have in total for beta1?
How many alien weapons are there per alien class (or total)?
How many different alien buildings including the hive?
Same question for the marines
How many.... somebody take it from here

Cuz quantity means better overall quality

ok, this is all subject to change, however here is what you can be looking at for the release...

1. About 8 or 9.
2. Around 3-4 Skills per class.
3. Quite a few, about 6
4. Marines... hmm, over 12 up to 15-16.

all of this is subject to change, and you know, there always could be more, so if that shot your hopes down, forget it, the game its self is incredible, no matter what.

Just remember while a heck of a lot of weapons may seem like it would add to the game, Ns is not a weapons mod. the Marines fighting against the Aliens wouldn't have access to anything beyond standard military issue, which means there's a gun for every situation, but very little beyond that. Quantity of weapons does not necessarily boost the quality of a game. I've heard from most playtesters that all of NS's weapons have a certain 'feel' to them, there is a palpable satisfaction from using them. They have also commented that the current amount of weapons on the Marine side seems to be working just right. If the team were to make it so there were an unrealistic amount of weapons available, I just don't think it would feel right. That said, it would be cool to fry some Bob with a flamethrower

I wouldn't be satisfied with a flamethrower unless at was at least as good as RTCW's flamethrower. That thing is so satisfing to use.

Burn evil Nazis! BUUURRRRN! *Ahem* Yeah... That'd be sweet for NS! Just substitute 'Nazis' for 'evil alien thingies' and you're set!

You've got the idea. It'd be funny if they got custom death animations too. But an RTCW flamethrower might be hard with HL engine and i don't know if the particle system can do that kind of thing. Almost certainly a version 2 thing anyway.
• biobrainbiobrain Join Date: 2002-02-18 Member: 224Members
sweet, but in a sence of development shouldsn't there be more costlier weapons that marines can research before they gain access to them. So there will be about 5 weapons (not including grenades) the marines would use and they will be upgraded.
That's the idea Upgrading Weapons!

That's how it works, biobrain. The marines start with a knife, pistol, and LMG. Everything else must be researched and bought. Weapons can be upgraded to be more powerful.

One word to the flamethrower:
Yesterday I played Scientist Slaughter House. There you also get a flamethrower and there it works just like the one in Rtcw. Also it's not looking that good it works the same way. You have a long continous stream of fire which follows your mouse movement. And it is a real stream, not some small flames like in TFC.

I bet if the SSH team can do it this way, Flayra can do it a hundred times better.

Hey everyone,
I joined the forums a couple of weeks ago but forgot to activate my account and I couldnt post...anyways I got that fixed, Well I was curious about the marine weapon upgrades, will they be visible changes to the weapon or more of a generic "ammunitition level 2" style like in starcraft for example?
• SmokeMastaSmokeMasta Join Date: 2002-04-13 Member: 430Members
weapon upgrades are visible
there are different weapons
like LMG(light Machine Gun) Shotgun, HMG (Heavy Machine Gun),GL (Grenade Launcher)

howerver i don't know for certain if there going to be any different kinds of bullets. there have never been posts about it so probably not

p.s: Welcome make sure u read ALL the faq's and before you make a new topic you search for that subject if we already discussed it.
• LongtoothLongtooth Join Date: 2002-07-02 Member: 863Members
I don't mean upgrading to different weapons I mean upgrades to weapons, like making the LMG more powerfull, are those visible? Or does it just say like level 2 LMG?

P.S. If I miss read the FAQ or one of the posts about upgrades sorry

I'm not sure but i don't think you'll see any difference between a normal LMG and a upgraded one. Well, perhaps the bulltes looks different

8 or 9 weapons??? From the info I gathered on the screens and the forum, I know there is a knife, a pistol, a lmg, a hmg, a grenade launcher and a shotgun. That makes 6. what are the 2 or 3 others, nades? a mini-nuke? (i remember readin about that somewhere.)

what about the welder?
• GwahirGwahir Join Date: 2002-04-24 Member: 513Members, Constellation
there is the welder, but it really isn't a weapon though it can do damage to nmes, nor is the motion detector, is it even selectable as a weapon? I always thought it was permanently active

So, I have to put something back here. If i remember correctly over half of those so called enemies(USA was the one attacking, no?)were civilian, children and women. Ofcourse there was men with Ak's but they were only protecting their homes cause they thought they were being attacked(and basicly, they were). The US soldiers didn't look much for what they shot. They shooted up everything, including civilians.

Sorry about changing this in to political post. You can now start flaming me as an anti-usa terroris, but in reality, im just a guy who knows actually something about this event.(Btw for the record, im not from anywhere near middle-east).

Oh, and about the flamethrower: the code for making the RTCW flame look so cool is completely engine-dependent. So while flay & co. could *probably* do something similar with a particle system, it'd take a looong time and wouldn't be quite as cool looking anyway.

The welder is actually more of a weapon than the motion tracker. The motion tracker is actually a built in "ability" that can be researched.

To put everything in a final light. Here are the weapons as I have seen it.
1. Knife
2. Pistol
3. Light Machine Gun
4. Heavy Machine Gun
5. Grenade Launcher
6. SHOTTY!
7. Trip Mines
8. Welder

These can all be carried and "fired"
Motion tracking is a researchable upgrade which allows all marines to see moving enemies as blue rings through walls.
