With super-transparent kung fu action!
After speaking with Maus and Jamil in IRC a week or so ago about transparent overlays, I got to thinking: It worked for knives, what about other things?
I had been converting the Desert Crisis USP when my permission request was denied, so now I had an open spot for a new project: Shrike and Lonewolf's USP Match. I was toying around with bluemetal textures, and testing brushes when I thought "Hmm, I got this new tool here, why not make the slide chrome?"
So I did. Added a transparent overlay (which doubles the polycount on the slide) that simulates a chrome reflective texture. This is an on-going project of mine to get the *perfect* chrome overlay, not just for pistols, but for everything else (brand new nice and shiny comm chair, for example), so expect later updates and reskins. I may throw up stuff for all you HLMV users to toy around and generally mess with. I want to keep this open.
So without further ado...

Skin: Lonewolf
Conversion/Chrome overlay: Jaeger

Notes: Must have new transparency DLLs
to work properly in-game.

Aside from that it looks friggin nice! And I want those heavy arms!
.....or do I have to view it through NS to see the actual effects? And where do the .dll's go! ns/dlls or valve/dlls?
And the DLLs go under your Half-Life folder. If you have DoD 1.0, do not do anything. Those DLLs are already included.
And once you start getting a few turrets in one outpost.... well.... your FPS are gonna take a MAJOR hit.

also I think hl chrome works only in accordance with some animations?
nicely done.
please give my lowpoly sentry turret a chrome effect.
Ollj: I'll try that. Barrels and feed chute only, or do you want the whole deal?
I went into HLMV and changed the fingers so that they would not be green anymore...
when I did that, the chrome effect totally changed, now it looks REALLY chromey. Compare this screenshot with the first one...
Note how theres like a little black triangle at the front, that's because of the chrome... when he does the "idle" animation, ie tilts the gun a little to the side, it looks SO_AWESOME it's not even able to put into words... woa..
the only thing I knew how to do was transport the skin; for some reason the skin texture on the model had green fingers, so I changed them. But if you are looking to, for example, change CS hands into NS hands, I hear it is easy, but I don't know how. And you cant just change the skin because they are entirely diff models.
BTW if you want this handgun... uh.. you'll have to give me the hosting bc I dont have any
and I am not taking credit for it, I have NO idea why the chrome got awesomer when I changed the hand, but ... uh, well all the credit goes to Jaeger. ...and the original modellers/skinners of the model too, cant forget them
My only guess is HLMV somehow recompiled the transparency effect when you saved the new model. That chrome effect does stand out, but I was trying to avoid that because then you wouldn't see the skin detail on the slide
I'll try to replicate this and see what happens. If anything, I'll put up a fix from mine with the default hands for those who want them.
And if you need a host... comviper@hotmail.com, I'll put it up.
