New Computer, Can't Install Ns!

<div class="IPBDescription">Says I need to update CS...?</div> I just got a new PC (AMD 2.8Ghz, 512DDR, radeon 9800, 80 gig HD, windows XP), and I used my stepbrother's CS retail disc because I can't find my HL disc, so I installed CS retail 1.5 and then tried to install NS, the problem is, it says I still have to update to CS 1.3 or higher, and 1.5 is obviously higher, so what's the problem?

reinstall cs or even better go download it install it and the up too date version currently then make sure you are installing ns to the proper directory for exampe mine is and im sure so is everyone else's

c:\Sierra\Half-Life

then make sure cs is also installed properly once again same destination as above...

then go ingame look in the bottom right hand corner and see what version it is it should say or look like this

v46/1.1.1.0 (thats not exactly it i think but u get the point hopefully)

then make sure when u launch cs that it is the proper version of cs...im not sure how u check that version someone else will prolly figure that out or if i have to i will tear up my cs to find out...

if all else fails trash ur half life trash ur cs and completelly clean the folder out manually then reinstall it patch and all etc etc.

also if your trying to install ns to a different folder where cstrike isnt it wont register the cstrike version and u will get the error unable to install cause of patch u know blah blah blah etc etc...

also dont use someone else's cs cause ur wonid's will be the same so its way easier and better to go download the thing from www.counter-strike.net
(hope i spelt it right) and get the up to date FULL install from there and NOT the patch (tis a stupid mistake i made by fast reading a page and not reading that it was a patch lol...anywhom those are the basic things to check after wards it gets a lil advanced for my touch so u will probably have to contact the majour ns techies lol...anywhom hope that this jiggle's the worm outta ur comp and gets u running <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'>

well strange the cs field should be reading or looking something like mine

C:\Sierra\Half-Life\hl.exe -console -game cstrike

I'm downloading it again, I think I may have got the wrong file. abd my wan id won't be the same because I'll have a different CD key (my blueshift CD key) and a different IP.

ya redownload it but make sure u do it through the website i provided as its more reliable and fileplanet is kinda lame sometimes...also make sure its the full install once again as you dont want to patch a broken version of cs unless thats the problem...which in this case it sounds like wrong target destination as i have done this before...(i tried to make a backup install of ns and installed it to a folder that didnt have cstrike in it and it didnt register the version of cs thus resulting in that dumb u need to upgrade error)

umm, I sorta doubt that blue shift will alow you to use CS retail.

Any way, you wont get intruble for ussing the same CD key, you just ownt be able to play sometimes.

now, first up I am perosnaly guessing that he has a non english version of cs retail

from rereading, I see that you probably did DL the wrong patch, oh well.

But yah, I really don't think you blushift CD Key will allow you to play CS Retail OL. Sory mate

Ok, well, you're wrong. I've used my BLueshift CD key to play both Half-Life and Counter Strike online. HL CD keys are interchangable. And I do have the english version of CS.

I downloaded the proper patch and it's still not working. Guess the only way to get NS working is to have someone zip up their NS folder and send iut to me, and that's probably not gonna happen.
