Wonids And Constellation.

Not as much of a nub question, i hope.
Ok, i've got a little question or two. I'm about to sign up to Constellation now, and something makes me a bit worried. Due to a recent reinstall of HL (it went screwy) i noticed that my WONID had changed. This is using the same CD, the same CD Key and everything. Knowing my luck i'll have to reinstall HL again sometime soon and i'll lose my lovely WONID again. Any idea how to make it not change or anything?

Also, paypal is proving to be a bit of a git when it comes to funds transfer. Oh well..

'lo Esuna, long time no see mate...

Your WonID should NEVER change unless you've used a different CD key.

Not too sure about the actual mechanics of it, but I think the CDKey is parsed through an algorithm to form your WonID.

If you hang on to that CD key and make sure you dont use another one then you should be alright.

Maybe you mistyped a digit somewhere an it accepted it? I admit the chances of mistying a valid CDKey are slim but it seems that could be what happened.

Hmm, that's what i'm thought, but i'm nigh on positive it's changed (it appears to have accumulated more characters i think).

As to paypal. It's crap, i've just closed my account. They don't let you transfer funds from an English bank account so i can't use it whatsoever. What a waste of time that was. Oh well, looks like the only other option is to send money by post. I trust that if cash is sent, it should be in US$ only?

Just a thought, did you do the 'status' in a lan game? or in a console loaded map or something?

I ask this because your 'lan' wonid isn't the real one, you have to connect to a proper server and check it then.

I know how to check my WONID, and this is checked online also. It just strikes me as odd.

I think your wonid does change after a reinstall. Not sure why, but its the impression I've always had.

I have seen it a couple of times, I run servers that I rent to people and they have done clean install using there original cd key and it has resulted in a different won. I havent had any problems paying for constellation using Paypal and im in England.

I don't have a credit card. I was going to try and do it all by bank transfer, but that's only available to Germany, Switzerland and Azerbaijahn.

There is ONE reason for a different wonid that I can think of...

A number of you long-term half-life players will remember the time when there were three auth servers, meaning you could get three different wonids from a single cd-key (also meaning you could use the same cd-key on three computers at the same time, but thats another story). Not too long ago valve and won.net changed the system so that the three auth servers became synchronized. It seems possible that your previous wonid was aquired from the old system and remained in use untill you reinstalled and then gained your new one. You can be sure, however, that from that point on your wonid will not change again until you change cdkey.

    Hope that makes sense

On a side note, I have the same problem with PayPal. My country isn't even listed on their country's listing, and they won't take credit cards based on my country (even though it's a VISA).

    Damn n00bs.

Strange....my WONID has been the same ever since I got HL a few years ago. I installed it on my old machine and my new machine and it has always been the same.

esuna, you might want to see if you entered one, two, or maybe even more characters wrong causing you to get a different wonid. I know there is a SLIM chance on that.. but if that is the case then you would be one cdkey richer

Other than that reinstall HL, and make sure when you uninstall HL delete all references to HL in your registry

I've had the same cdkey ever since my first copy of HL when it was first released way back when(still have the box too) and my wonid has always been the same sweet five digits..

Clean the Half-Life/Valve/Won-related registry keys from your machine, then reinstall. Your WONID/CD key is stored in the registry, so reinstalling with that information still in there could (I'm not sayng it should, but it's possible) cause it to change.
