<div class="IPBDescription">Recording your WONID is now mandatory!</div> In a long-anticipated move to guarantee the identity of players wearing [OwP] tags, we have now created and distributed software to [OwP] affiliated servers that scans your WONID as you connect and compares it to a list of registered WONIDs held on a database online.
<b>In order to play on an affiliated server, you must have registered your WONID on your user account on the [OwP] site</b>. If you have not, and you try to access one of our official servers with [OwP] in your nick, you will be kicked on connect.
I urge all members to register their WONIDs immediately. This action has been looked forward to for some time, and will go a long way to help us identify real members, and sniff out imposters. Also, by registering your WON you show a commitment to the Online Warfare Pact, and an awareness that breaching of the rules will result in you being added to the (yet to be created) "wall of shame". Of course, we don't expect to have to do much of that at all ... <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
Many thanks to Fractal and Boogieman for their outstanding work on this, and Major Malfunction for his support. Please help us to help you; register your WONID with us today!

2) What prevents someone else from registering my same wonid? I hope this system doesn't require to insert your CD Key to calculate and register the wonid...
Nice concept really, but all this enforced registration stuff is not going to help their popularity. Especially since you don't need that tag to follow their guidelines for good teamplay.
Not to be all negative and junk, but why should I need to regester my wonid with you? If someone steals my id, i send in my cdkey and swap it out for a new one. Either that or I go spend 10 bucks on a new copy of HL. I'm sure there is more than one "diehard" playing this game, but I do know my cdkey is unique. I know ppl tried to deface my name, but that is just part of like (on and off line). If someone wants to deface your tag, they will do it on non-owp servers and they will do it repeatedly. Troublemakers don't follow the rules, they use multiple keys and find various ways to ban evade. This seems like a hassle for the honest/straight players.
This is a good idea, but I'm not going to regester my id with you. In TF/c there was a program that regestered clan tags which was used by the leagues... Even that didn't last. This just seems like a "i'm in the tree house club and you're not" thing. Having me freely advertise your tag doesn't help me, be me. I know who I am, so do my friends. I really don't care what people think of me, I've made my own path and it is a pretty clean one. Maybe I'm missing the point here, could you clarify for me. This seems like a TPF thing, but do you really check each player that they are playing honest. Looking at your page, I'd be really surprised that you check all the members. Maybe this is something for clan/guild players... not joe player like me.

I am not gonna put it up here. You will have to find it yourself. The idea is as it stands that you won't be able to play on affiliated OwP-servers if you didn't register your WON ID at the OwP site at your account.

Funny that you would say that... OwP is primarily a DoD thing, and recently there was a major controversy because several self-declared OwP members took a very vocal pro-extreme-realism stance. That, along with very strict definitions of <a href='http://www.mikesmarauders.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=86' target='_blank'>exploits</a> on the official OwP servers, was not well-received by the clan community (to put it carefully).
While OwP is not specifically aimed at any particular scene and still (somewhat naively) hopes to function as an entry point for the clan community, among their ranks you'll primarily find casual players with a strong opinion how the game is "intended" to be played.

By that, do you mean scrubs?
Unfortunately I don't do dod, checked it out, but the real war thing isn't my thing. I've check out the website, but like I said, nothing agaist these guys, but I don't see the personal benifit.
Looking at Twex's link, I pretty much play by that standard. The only exception is if I'm in danger going up/down a ladder (i jump off and continue shooting). Their server page didn't list a NS server. What loss do I have? If there is one server... big deal.
I really don't get this. If I play on an OWP server and I play as "DieHard" I get kicked for not being me... or will I only be kicked/wall of shame for being [OWP]DieHard? I'm not much of a tag'er and the user who finds this server through ASE/Gspy/In-game, how will they know to regester. It can be in the motd, but if i'm kicked shortly after, I"ll go play else where. When someone wants to play, they will play. Two, three, four server aren't enough for me to restered when there are a few hundred online.
Just asking how this works... that's all...... no offense really.

alright, thanks for clearing that up.

I guess if people want to go to that much trouble to find a good server, more power to em. I don't want to play fair and square just because someone is holding my wonid over my head.
TSA has implemented the same type of play parameters without any strict conformance policy (check my sig). Basicly, if people want to play this way, they'll eventually gravitate toward each other.
Just an opinion.
<i>"Why Register?"</i>
to be an [OwP] member is to agree to a common set of principles. registering your WON is a kind of commitment to live by the rules. if you don't register a WON, your user ID will eventually be deleted and you'll be removed from our database.
<i>"aren't you only for DoD?"</i>
nope. whilst it's been mentioned that our main player base is DoD, we have players in NS specifically, also BF, MoH, Q3, CS, IL2, and a variety of other combat based games, including strategy games.
<i>"what's the difference between you and TSA?"</i>
very little, really, if you're in TSA you're singing from the same hymn sheet as us. I am in discussions with MonsE about setting up a formal relationship between [OwP] and TSA, these are ongoing.
<i>"what's this thing about [OwP] and clans?"</i>
We had some guys claiming to be members and talking crap on the DoD forums about certain clans. when we found out who they were we came down on them really hard. we are an open ended, friendly organisation aimed at encouraging fun and friendly atmosphere where people can join a game and expect teamwork; ideal public NS servers, basically <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
<i>"Why WONIDs?"</i>
your WONID is public information, believe it or not. anyone can see it when you join a server, but its' unique to you. unfortunately, a lot of people claim to belong to certain organisations, clans and groups, but don't. essentially we can check the name of a "member" against a WONID, to see if someone is who they say they are.
<i>"Sounds great! How do i sign up?"</i>

(I'm from 1911 so I know how much crap you get. I just wanted to show my support for the ideals. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> )

yeah, we're a charity virtually so some times we are a little slow in implementing changes, but we get there!
