Well, to be honest, that'd be a great computer for NS. Keep in mind, only if u run a stupid computer that has no right playing NS in the 1st place with CPU/computer speed mess up u're ping all that much... It's ISP related. That being said, You could get 100fps with it... You'd have to tweek a couple settings, but you could get 100fps, and run 1024x768... which is a great resolution IMHO.

    BTW: AMD ALTHON XP RULES!!!

please tell me your not going to pay over 450 dollars for such a computer.. please tell me your not!

[edit]- ddr 2100 is horrible, get at least 2 sticks of ddr 2700, 2 sticks of 256 would be good and get the barton 2500 instead, much better deal

Oh Yeah! Those warranties are completely compatible with NS 1.0x but be careful because I don't think they're supported in 2.0 <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

As for your ping, that's more dependent on your internet connection. However, a fast computer will give you higher FPS and will look nicer in-game.

Okay, chances are if you are on broadband this wont affect your ping even slightly - but dont let them fool you into thinking that what sort of comp you have doesnt affect ur ping.

I had a dodgy internal 56k modem on a amd k6-2 500mhz and since it relied upon the processor for power when I got into combat the proc couldnt supply enough power for both the game and the modem and THEN i would get lag.

So it is possible, but highly unlikely.

    EDIT

btw getting higher quality ram is DEFINATELY a good idea - but be warned, its no good getting pc3200 if your motherboard cant handle it.

Generally I'd go with Intel nowadays (and I am a fan of AMD), because Intel CPUs outperform AMDs with he same pentium rating. I know Intel is more expencive, but considering their performance advantage they just cost as much (or are even cheaper) as the comparable AMD, but consuming less power and being alot easier to cool (less noise).

Yeah, my father feels the same way, but me personally, I kinda disagree. I've got a Volcano 7 CPU fan on my AMD AthlonXP 2100+
and right now it's running @ 85 degrees F. (I also have about 5 case fans in my case). I wouldn't call that hard to cool, and as far as I can tell there's no lack of power off this beast.

What they said about RAM is right, I've seen/used computer that have pc 2100, and it's not the greatest, but it beats SDRAM hands down. I run one stick of pc2700 256, and I'm gunna upgrade that with another stick of 512 sometimes toon... 256 is ok, but I find myself wishing for more ram quite a bit.

Then again, you if that was a good NS computer, so I said it was. You didn't ask for suggestions <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->.

EDIT: I will warn you, XP Home is #@%$#%##?! I hate it with a fiery pashion, b/c Pro is soo much better. If you wanna go XP, go Pro, else u'll regret it. (I know how the made home... I beta tested XP, let me tell ya, home is soo slapped together, I can't believe they're willing to sell it!)

Yeh, luckly my computer just took an IQ test and scored over 120 - not only that but he knows his rights as a computer in the United States. These computers are getting too smart, I think we should use stupid ones from now on.

Eric - if you can run half life, you can run Natural Selection. Your specs look fine - you should be able to handle NS without a problem.

It's Microsoft for crying out loud. They made stuff like Windows ME and Outlook.

Your computer should be fine. I'm not sure about Win XP Home either. I have Pro and it's ok. Does it come with a monitor?

    Just for future reference.

When the new batch of games comes out (doom III< half-life2), you may find yourself in need of an upgrade.

Just so you know, you'll probably noticed the biggest performance increase from getting a new video card. Just check with dell (or a friend that knows computers) to see if your motherboard has an AGP slot. If you do, then just wait until you want an upgrade and ask what the best bang for your buck would be on some forum. You'll figure out one way or another which video card to get.

    Aol Broadband? unlucky :/
Its the biggest oxymoron everl; "aol broadband". its bascially a rubber band as apposed to a peice of string, so it can wobble a bit more. They also use faster hampsters in their exchanges too to cope with it <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
