Requesting Permission/texture Sites

NS for Jedi Knight
I am in the process of making NS for the game Jedi Knight and I was wondering if I could get permission to release it to the public and possibly permission to use your textures (all credit you require will be given)

I would also like texture websites, from anyone, that have the NS type theme. Industrial and maybe even some alien-industrial. I appreciate any help you can give me.

p.s. If this isn't the right forum for this topic could you move it and tell me where it should go?

If you want to use NS textures in another game you'll need to contact Flayra ( flayra@overmind.org ). I can't imagine him supporting a ripoff copy of NS somehow.

I wish you the best of luck with your project.

There's a thread in this forum somewhere listing all the custom texture WADs, it shouldn't be too difficult to find if you use the search function.

Thanks for your help, but I won't use any textures without the author's permission. I will look up that thread and see if it's mentioned there.

I'll also contact Flayra and see if he would support it, there is always a chance (but I think your probably right)
    Thanks again

Seen as though NS is copyright, does that mean he would liable? Or would that only happen if he made the Jedi Knight mod retail, i.e. making money from it?

No, He doesn't have to make any money. As long as he makes it public It is a bad thing because yoru right the name is copy righted. But, did also ask if he could make it public so I assume that is part of his request to the creator.

As far as i know the copyright holder can shoot the mod down at any time. I've had this happen to me too (3D Realms threatened legal action on me ).

My words of advice would be come up with something original and not against the original author's wishes. And if you're going to blatantly rip off the idea, at least have the decency to use a different name.

From the faq on the main ns page:

Can I use the NS textures, technology, game world, concept art or anything else for any purpose other then Natural Selection?

No. The team has worked very hard to create the NS universe. Please don't e-mail or post asking to use our textures, models or technology for other projects. You can, however, use any artwork from NS for an NS fansite, or NS community resource. You may never use anything from NS to make money, nor may you ever state or imply that any NS assets were made by anyone other then the NS team. If in doubt, e-mail flayra@overmind.org before using anything. Any inappropriate use of any NS content will be pursued aggressively.

Man, I completely forgot to look in the FAQ while searching for the answer. Thanks for your help. I guess I won't release it then.

I was also wondering how to extract textures from .wad files. I can't seem to find an extractor for them.

I want to extract the textures for my own personal use at home with my brother. Don't worry I won't release them and I am not going to break any copyright (hey I could get sued) Thanks.

All you need is wally. It is very simple to use (even I can do it) get it here.

Hey thanks. It worked perfectly, exactly what I wanted. I'd say "I'd credit you in the readme" but since I'm not releasing it... lol
