Changes For Us Mappers

<div class="IPBDescription">In 2.0, wishlist?</div> Okay, heres a thread to drop all of the new/modified entities or whatever you would like to see in 2.0.

Ill start it out. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

func_weldable able to give the marine like 10 or 20 res on being welded, this way you can make small objectives on the map, besides owning the aliens.

trigger_hurt being able to target a specific team.

Thats all I can come up with now, just these 2 would make for some pretty interesting new maps, IMHO...

Okay, flame away! <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    TEAM SPECIFIC ENTITIES!

    It can't take much to add a marine/alien trigger which is set to both by default on a lot of entities!

    The 'Move With' function in Spirit-HL would be a great addition to NS. Like you could make a dropship (func_train) using env_particles at the exhausts (using 'Move With'), and it would follow the dropship everywere... and be shut off when the dropship lands <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo--> . This is just one of many things you can make with 'Move With', if its ever going to be inserted into the NS code.

    BTW, the Spirit-HL sourcecode is available, and free of use.

    I would like to see a flag or option on info_team_starts so that you can decide weather that is a redemption point or not. So that you can have spawn points really high up or in tight places, and not worry about a redemption onos getting stuck or killing himself on a fall.

    Drop the 'scorpian' talk in here.

    This is a serious topic.

    Papercut, that's the point, this isn't a serious topic, the reason people are being facetious is that there's a whole forum for suggestions, and if there's something you'd like to see in the next version, and it's a valid suggestion, then go submit it there. Making a thread about it in the mapping forum won't get it seen as a serious suggestion.

    So on with the stupidity!

    I'd like to see some sort of bear. A bear in a pink shirt, and if you build 3 DCs and an OC on top of him you win the game. Except that's the condition for the marines, the aliens must build a TF and half a tub of "Extra Smooth" ice cream on his left shin to win the game.

    Also, the winning mechanism is random, only 1 out of 3 times it will work, the other 2 times it will result in all of your team having no legs, and therefore, unable to walk.

    Serious or not, if they're not in already, they won't be at all when 2.0 releases. July 31st projected release doesn't mean you can keep jamming things in until July 30th.

    The only changes directly relevant to mappers I can think of off the top of my head are as follows, only one in code:
    X - Modified info_location behavior (z-axis independent)
    X - New fgd

    I need only point you to Beta Discussion to explain why there is so little as far as new toys.

    No, i believe the point i was getting at, and articulated fairly clearly also, was that any suggestions for NS, mapping or otherwise, go in the suggestions and ideas forum. If you +really+ want to see your suggestion make it into future versions it would be prudent to submit it there, not here.

    That's why it's there, y'know.

    Hence why i came to the conclusion that this thread is retarded, since it has no real place being here.

    I love how you've all waited till the nearing ends of development, and when a set release date has been announced (even though the release isn't finished yet), to suddenly start suggesting ideas for things to put into NS. <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/nerd.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd.gif'><!--endemo-->

    My problem which lead to my suggestion only occured about 2-3 days ago, so submitting it earlier wasn't really an option. But i'm patient, i don't mind so much if it doesn't make it into 2.0, possibly 2.1 or something would be nice. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Not sure to post this in the right topic.. But i think the comm should be able to zoom in/out.
    This feature allows map with higher and lower levels..(and big elevator..).

    i'm actually making an nsmap with differents levels, and the lower level is very hard for the comm.

    It'll be interesting to see how many of the requests here will rehash the old, previously webbed <a href='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=4&t=16953&st=0' target='_blank'>FGD request</a> thread that turned into a mapper's wishlist.

    I wasn't sure about any mapper requested changes being made in March; don't expect anything that could possibly introduce a bug now <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I think the info_mapinfo variable for commander view height should specify the distance between the commander's view and the to of the wall he is closest to. That would at least allow for maps with wide variations in height without the anthill problems.

    *imagines ns_staircase as the next FUN map* *shudders*

    Even though I hardly think that anything mentioned here would make it for 2.0, considering it going to be released in under a month, the thread could be kept at least semi-serious, 3.0 anyone?

    (Grumbles about people asking for things they already have.... what, you want <i>more</i> teamspecific entities? Lazy mappers, just do it yourself instead of asking the devs to make it easier)

    What we <i>really</i> need is 'movewith'. This single Spirit of HL specific holds so much infathomable power that can't be replicated any other way! Also spirit of HL entities like trigger_changecvar or trigger_changevalue. (trigger_changevalue might allow the commander's viewheight to be changed in-game, depending on how NS likes it, though something like an info_commanderlocation brush that would define the area the commander could move around in would be very nice.)

    i think movewith is one of the most powerful entities in hl... apart from info_player_start <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
