In Regards To Hive Build Restrictions

<div class="IPBDescription">on beta forums...</div>The initial problem that prompted restriction of building one hive at a time was that the kharaa tech much faster than marines. Some posts regarding the change complain about the restrictive feel of the build (1.1u). One of the largest improvements of 2.0 over 1.04 that I am looking forward to most is the better flow of the game for both sides. Perhaps lifting the hive build restriction and tweaking alien hive build time might be a more simpler approach.

The ability for aliens to build OCs with zero hives may give the alien's a better chance at rebounding from zero hives, but on more occasions it will prolong the end game and be more of an annoyance. I mean in 1.04 games which I still play, aliens are able to prolong games without being able to build OCs. Perhaps instead of putting in a feature that was taken out for good reason, just look at simpler features that can be tweaked such as hive build time. If the one hive building restriction works, maybe increasing the build time of each hive so the aliens do not feel as restricted. A faster build time will also help aliens come back from zero hives without compromising a longer end game with OC spamming.

    I think the extended alien endgame comes from the Ping of Death rather than anything else. If the PoD damaged structures as well as players it would speed up the endgame. Or, if the PoD was removed it would make those hidden fortresses less valuable and therefore speed up the end game.

    OC's at zero hive is a bad idea.... then you would probably get a bunch of gorges running around spamming OC's.... sure it would give them a chance but 1. you could possibly crash the server if you place too many 2. You would eventually die cause of no hives unless DC's are there to help you... the only thing I would want off is chamber limits.... its plain annoying and doesnt allow much infestation.... i think the hive restrictions could work with tweaking.... thats my 2 c

    If the aliens have no hives, but a bunch of gorges with enough res to spam the map with OC's, then I'm thinking the marines didn't do a very good job.

    Guys, the ping of death is still there. They aren't going to live without the hive. They have to build it first, THEN spam oc's. OC spam isn't going to be a problem, and to be honest, how many times to people get away from a dieing hive/put up a new one/ and still have enough res for ocs? Not too many.

    in 1.0x there are many occaisons where the gorge has enough res to drop a second hive while waiting for the first to finish. or to drop the hive over and over to watch the marines keep killing it. But that's where res control and other issues of 2.0 should fix it.

    It amazes me that Ping of Death still exists. It was stupid in the beginning, it's still stupid now. If the world were fair, the marines that camp during endgame in some obscure and welded vent would ping of death as well, saving the 2-10 minutes the aliens spend finding just WHICH hiding spot the marine chose to hide in just to prolong the game, with NO hope of EVER recovering.     Don't forget that hives cost only 30 res in 2.0, and that OC cost has been reduced drastically (isn't it like 5 now?)

    So, a gorge with 50 res could put up the hive, then build 4 OCs for protection, or he could throw down 10 random OCs

    If you have 0 hives there's hardly any chance to come back, no matter how many ocs you build. But if you have one hive which is building already and you lose your initial hive, it's very useful to be able to build ocs, still.

    And oc spam won't be a problem. Lots of OCs mean less fades and oni anyway

    Aliens start with one hive and can build upto 2 more.The problem I see with this is ya got one hive ya build a second and can't putup the 3rd hive till the second is done and the rines techup to hmg's wipeout the first hive then the second then gg game over.Just a big problem I forsee,This is NOT a flame just I think it will be funny and I'll laugh if my assumption is true or comes true etc.
