You're right, it is up to the mapper. I just hope he makes the right decision.

It's about history. The players of NS have dubbed it "NoName" hive. It's a cool name, and it's even cooler that it came from the community. Regardless of what it's official name becomes, it'll always be NoName to me

If you want history, then what about the old pre-1.0 PT jokes about Mother Hive?
You know... if you run a server and you're so insistent on calling it NoName, you could use the power of RipEnt for evilness and take out the hive name... basically, reverse what they did to the .bsp with RipEnt again. Once you put the bsp in your server, people playing on your server will be able to call it noname again, without having to download anything else. This is cause the entities are serverside, so the server will just tell the clients that there isn't any name for the hive

Uh, I guess I'm not altogether "in tune" with the community (or Flayra, for that matter ;), but I don't altogether understand what's so great about No Name. Mother just seems so much more, I don't know, classic; it has a better ring to my ear, and I sure as Hell know I'd love to be a Kharaa calling my hive Mother. ;) Anyway, I guess if you really must insist on having the creator change the name, I would suggest Nameless as a better alternative to No Name; it just rolls off the tongue so much better. ^____^
Yeh NN and its other various names Unamed one of the other names shoudl stay!!! whats so motherly about it anyway... does it cook bake and clean our washing for us???
It pops us Kharaa out screaming bloody murder and tearing up Marine hides. What else would a good mother do? I mean, why should the hive do all the cleaning? Gorges are always running around, throwing their toy chambers around and webbing up the antique furniture; I think Mother should be given a break and not have to look exasperated and say "This place is a mess."
The name of "noname" does certainly have a nice ring of absurdness In addition, all those insiders can be safe in the knowledge that they are better than the average player by knowing it is supposed to be called mother (as Im sure many PTs are ;p)

Yeh, I gotta say I'd prefer it got renamed Noname... if I'd created the map I'd love to call it something that's so widely recognised and created by the NS community because we play it and have lots of fun
what's so wrong with Mother Hive? Especially since the map is a quasi-rip-off/homage to the Alien series. Why not? It's the mother computer, now the Mother Hive, the irony! Can't you guys see the irony?
But yeah, in the end I don't really care what the hive is called, as long as we still have NS to play.
We might be used to it, but the influx of new players NS will get with 2.0 will be just as confused ay its lack of a name as we all were at first.
I like Nacy, its one of the best maps, No Name or Nameless Hive is as well know on that map due to its name as any hive in the game. I must admit It will be nice to have a blip on the screen telling me that Mother hive is under attack!
while I dimly rember "mother" I really have grown to Love "noname" Please, its bad enough your taking me beloved little babblers, but the least you could do it keep noname in the game
To clear up the question of how they changed it: Although the info_location entity is already in place, it doesn't contain the field required to name it. Easy to fix with ripent, if you also add it to the titles.txt (where Mother Hive also is omitted in the current version).
Since titles.txt probably is read client side (try changing it yourself if you'd like to be sure) server operators can't change the name of the hive room to anything else then what will be in titles.txt or to a blank value (as it is now).
All the old play testers when they are in their 90s could tell their grand children that are playing Natural-Selections: The Ressurection that noname used to be mother. Dont you want to say that?
As for the argument about keeping thehive name as "noname" b/c everyone was used to it, early forumites couldn't imagine not calling skulks "Bob"s, but it happened. Give it time, you'll be using the new names with no problems.
P.S. I don't even remember wha tthe other alien names were, blinky, pudgy, ... oh well.
