besides, it wasn't all that fun anyway, not to mention horribly unbalanced.
Who would want it, that's a different story.
Ask yourself: If it worked, why was it removed?
Why not write a metamod plugin for a marine nuke!
zippy
Not flaming or anything I can understand now I guess how the gorge sucking thing was unbalanced etc.
Onto the public beta thing: The reason why it would beneficial is "everyone" pt's,vets and the public working together and the pub giving nice feedback to the vets and playtesters instead of the vets and pt's giving feedback to Flayra it'd be everyone.
The bad thing about this is while the pt's and vets are playing NS v2.0 their getting all that info, gameplay, strats etc.Assuming they still play it after it's released the vets and playtesters would allready know what to do and thrash the public at public games when "everyone" could have been "Equal". I have patience and I'm allready ready for NS v2.0 hehe lol don't ask how lol have a nice day and looking forward to blasting all of ya rofl.
Many of you might have noticed that Flayra posted in the Beta forum "hey, performance test on Fists of Ra, I need a full server!" Many veterans and a few playtesters answered the call, and FoR was full in a matter of minutes (I considered myself lucky to have made it in). A 24-player match with skilled players on a new, speedier-than-ever server... sounds like a dream come true, right?
It was, except for the intermittant, horrible lag spikes that came without warning and for no reason that Flayra could immediately pinpoint. After 10 or 15 minutes, he told us to go play on STD while he sorted out the problem, and he'd call us back when he needed us again.
The moral of the story: when you're releasing client patches once or twice a week and server patches often daily or even multiple times in a single day, trying to conduct a public beta just doesn't work. Flay was doing server optimisations on the fly, while we were playing; you can't do that in a public beta. And do players really want to play a lag-spiking build? No, I guarantee you they don't.
Flay knows what professionalism is, and it's what he uses when he releases NS builds.
Coil I think CobraChaos meant releasing NS v2.0 so peeps could create LAN games and play with bots.
But the actual playtesting is a whole different story... especially when you going up against a whole team of people that know exactly what they are doing, and they are damn good @ it.
