They wont go away (I think, I don't actually know but theoretically, the logic is sound) because they're reset everytime you access the site.

as an example and that doesnt keep me loged on. can you please tell me how to delete them they have been screwing up this whole forum for me.
However, I still don't understand the <i>problem</i> of having cookies.
2) Use browser menu to clear cookies
3) Close browser

How about realize this has nothing to do with deleting the cookies. He can delete the cookies just fine. They just reset everytime he logs on because he's tracking certain threads.
hahah thats it <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

Ah, that's the thing. Notice I said DISABLE, not delete. Opera gives that option, so cookies are never created in the first place. Hence, my elitist statement stands. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
Tracking posts is so you can get an email when someone replies.
Here are the names:
<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->member_id
topicsread
pass_hash
session_id
<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
2 of those, topicsread and session_id go away when I close my browser (at the end of the session) the other 2, member_id & pass_hash are used to store the auto-login data
If you are really paranoid, disable cookies, or (I dunno if you can do this with other browsers) prevent the site from setting cookies on your computer
My solution would be to use <a href='http://www.mozilla.org' target='_blank'>Mozilla</a>, its alot more secure then IE, and its open source.. so you know exactly what it is doing (if you can program)

Wow Kiddo. You can block cookies with IE too. I don't know why you would, though. Cookies for the most part are good <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif'><!--endemo-->

HIS FIRST POST ARRR ON AN UNFINISHED MODEL I WANTED GET RID OF THAT COOKIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *head explodes*
I'm fairly certain that all the major browsers have a help file.
[Cult]Creep.
Every single time I applied a hotfix or SP, IE felt a need to re-enable cookes and mess with settings. After a few tries of that, I gave up. It was awfully annoying.
It was actually crap like that that pushed me to Opera in the first place. I have friends that went to Mozilla for the same reasons.
Opera: disable cookies in 2 keystrokes: "F12, c." Done!
I rest my Elitist case.
(In case anyone hasn't noticed, I'm really joking around here. I'm not really serious. Hence the constant elitist references. But Opera *does* rock, and IE does basically suck. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> )
yeah, opera rocks.

Let me get this straight. You can see the cookies in Windows Explorer but it will not let you delete them? Or, when you delete them, the next time you look they are there again?
Maybe it's just that it's 2am here, but I can imagine that avatar of yours hopping up and down completely frustrated, and then aiming that cutesy frowny look at the offending cookies.
May I say your avatar suits you well <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
