Connection Issues

Failure to connect to games...
Im not shure how common this is, and for all i know it could be another symtom of my cable... but right now halflife seems to be the only game that will not cope with it (my only other problem would be webpages). I am running cable, yet when i connect to a server, i either get [admin] [messageex] unable to find player, and then eventualy it times out. I was just wondering if anyone else ever experiences this, and/or might have some insight on it. On one last note i do (in like one in every 30 tries) actualy play a game, but when the map switches, its all over. Any help would be greatly appresiated.

ok...

give us a full syspecs and some more details.

extra detaio (along with sys specs) we could use are:
1) does this happen with ALL HL mods?
2) how do you find/join servers?
3) do you play any other OL games?
4) what 'problems' do you havwe with webpages?
5) have you talked to your ISP about this?

ok, so syspecs and those Qs for now

If he fails to connect, he appears in the readyroom with 0 latency
Netstat to the servers is fine..
Nothing (software wise) grabbing the client port, (checked with netstat)

I was helping him before, I'm stumpted

The specs are:
512 ram
2.53 gig
gf4 mx440
cable modem

this happens for ALL hl games
i do play other ol games, they get lag but generaly work. (war3,d2x,pristontale)
websites generaly are slow... but download speed is fine (if not better)
and unfortunatly i havnt contacted isp, i plan to do that monday, but i was thinking that there might be something beyond my internet that is wrong with it... mind you it does work rarely, but when it does, its perfectly fine, no lag (or at least no abnormal lag for cable), and everything is fine, but once we switch maps, its gone...
i used to use ASE for finding servers, i use HLLA now.

No good. same effect as before. just doesnt want to switch from consol to game, it ends up timing out, with the exception of that occasional pass.

I still say call up your isp and complain about connection quality, say you think your line is damaged, dont say anything about game.. your isp dosent support games, it seems they will ignore you if you mention games

Silly question really, but are you by any chance running an old hard drive? (I doubt you are, but you never know).
If so, let us know what size, brand and speed it is.

Cheers.

It may be a simple case of spyware buggering up your connection. You can get Ad-Aware 6 for free here. I have this little program that restores some internet registry keys and it did wonders for my connection. I can't remember the link though. I'll hunt for it later.

Ad-aware is an excellent program.

I highly recommend it.

I made him run Spybot S&D which is another good anti-spybot program

OMG OMG OMG

I had this exact same problem too.

The way i fixed it was similar to when you are lagging in the middle of a firefight and so you head for an exit if though the computer monitor only shows a frame of you bobbing up and down. This happened to me a lot. I figure that im already connected and in the readyroom, just my screen doesnt show it yet, so after awhile i just time out.

The way to fix this is to move your mouse around while you're still connecting, therefore proving that you're not idle.

Also - I get the same "Admin: unable to find player etc" message as you do.

Oh and by the way, my computer sucks massively in every way imaginable - the connection, the memory, everything. Hope it works for you Im off to play some NS.

Admin: unable to find player etc

Thats I think related to AdminMod.. It shouldn't have anything to do with connecting.. I get it too and I connect fine.. I would think moving the mouse around may help.. try typing status in console if it seems connected but isnt showing

Thanks alot for all your support. A guy from the cable company is coming in a few hours to fix the problem, so il let him work his magic. On a side note, my hard drive is up to date... and in the past few days i have been able to connect a few times. Strangly, i like the idea of moving the mouse around. On numerous occations it just wont go from consol to the game and it says i get kicked for not picking a team etc. Doubt its anything more than luck. Well if there is one thing cool about this. i have alot of time to take in the amazing download speeds, thus, i have my own personal movie collection on my computer thx to kazaa lite ! Well im out, again thx alot.

OK, this is the only relevant topic i saw, So i'll put it here, I too am having the same problem as the previous guy, But i have checked modem and stuff.

My comp is new, and i am on a router, i have no issues with any of the other mods, VS-DOD-CS, anyway, My cl_updaterate is 20, cl_cmdrate is 20, and i'm on cable so my rate is 9999, I have been up and down the chain with all these commands and my issue continues. More to the point of my problem.

I can join servers just fine, And in the waiting room i have no problems, When i join a team, It starts, Sometimes i get in smooth as silk, others i lag for 10 seconds, and when i get in (i run net_graph 3) In the bottom right corner i see Loss at 26 or greater, The problem doesnt happen all the time, But i have yet to finish a map without beign booted with an accompanying message stating that i have overflowed. Any ideas on this or need to know more? Let me know plz, i am spazing over this.

Ns is beign a pain in the butt.

No, I don't know hoe to help you, and I would like it if you didn't PM me about your post.. 2 PM's with the same thing.. I didnt need that
You should have made a new post too... Its probably your router or the other server though
• JomilJomil Join Date: 2003-07-17 Member: 18229Members
Sorry, that was accident.

Anyway, i have tried about 50 random servers, same thing on all, And unless i need to open specific ports for this game, its working fine.
