Bad Lag Spikes..

While playing Natural Selection...the first five minutes of gaming will be fine and i'll run at a decent speed, with either completely no lag, or a slight click during firefights. But then it just completely rockets up to 8,000 and freezes for about ten seconds...then it will slowly start to click again, completely freeze for two seconds more, before it completely drops back down to the normal non-laggy ping. It will continue to do this every five minutes or so...and I dont get a flush enity packet warning..or any warning for that matter..so I have no clue as to what it is. I've tried reinstalling Natural Selection five times...then just reinstall of of Half Life itself...what is happening!? I currently run on a 1.8 512mb Compac, with a Geforce2 card..and I use DSL. I also noticed that this happens only in Natural Selection and in Half Life Paintball...any other mods run flawlessly.

    I have exactly the same problem, I'm on Cable and pings are good, just until I get a lag spike, I even get it in the readyroom, like every 5 minutes. It's soo frustrating. I dont know what to do. Help would be greatly appreciated

    ok, now then

    seeing how has you listed HLPB and NS as the 2 mods that this hapens with I would sorta think of overloading your comp simply BS both NS ans HLPB are notorious for that (each PB in HLPB is a model, not a sprite, but a full 3d modell <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->)

    however you (ixupi) have good evugh sysspecs to not have to wory about that so it probably aint the problem.

    now, 'clicks'? wthey is a click? be more precise pls <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    also use net_graph 3 to look at a more precise break down on yuor connection, tell us if you see packet loss or choke (they are labeled on it)

    @both of you:
    do you play other mods/OL games? do you get similar problems?

    make sure that you told HL what type of internet conection you are ussing (this iwll effect some variables)

    I think it might have to do with said variables but I don't know them that well (the ones I am speaking of are rate and those like it, what is rate set at for you 2?, simply type rate in the conn and it will tell you)

    either the problem is server side or your graphics card has littlew driver specific demons in it and needs to be purged with a good driver update. Id neither is the problem PM me and ill tech support you through the process
