In multiplayer there isn't a train, there are the "doors" that let you acces a side.
NS has NO singleplayer. None. No hazard course, no singleplayer levels. Multiplayer only. If you want to host a LAN game, you will need the latest patch. If you want to join a hosted game (on the 'net or on a LAN) you do not need the latest patch. You will when NS 2.0 is released.
Singleplayer NS is in the works, by a third party. I don't know whether or not there is going to be offline training in the future (as far as I know, it's a possibility but isn't in the works).
If you want to practise offline, start up a LAN game and type <span style='font-family:Courier'>sv_cheats 1</span> in the console. This will let you swap teams as much as you want, and will allow the game to start without both teams having players on them.
Finally, read the manual, do not go gorge until you have a feel for aliens, do not go commander until you have a feel for marines, and have fun!
If you use the desktop shortcut that the installer creates, the singleplayer and hazard course buttons are clickable.
Because by the time they had figured that out, they already had a 100 or so mirrors up, and it would have been a helluva job to give them all a new thingie again
At least that's what MonsE said lately <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
Do This:
The Icon that NS created on the desktop,
Select it,
now right click it,
Now scroll down to "Delete",
Click Delete.
Now right click your screen (an open area),
Scroll down to "Create Shortcut",
Click the Browse button,
Locate your HalfLife Folder,
Locate the Folder Labeled "ns" in your HL folder,
Open it and look for a file called "ns.exe",
Create a short cut to that and place it on your destop.
Also if your having trouble finding servers, DL Game Spy or All Seeing Eye (ASE)

There is no "ns.exe". To create a shortcut to Natural-Selection, you have to create a shortcut to the Half-Life executable and add <span style='font-family:Courier'> -game ns</span> to the command line.
1.) Delete your current '<i>Natural Selection</i>' Desktop Icon that is on your desktop.
2.) Click Start
3.) Go into '<i>All Programs</i>' at the bottem left (This is for Windows XP) <b>OR</b> Program Files (For previous Window versions)
4.) Move your mouse cursor over the '<i>Natural Selection</i>' folder.
5.) Right click the '<i>Launch Natural Selection</i>' button.
6.) Click <i>Copy</i> within the small menu presented to you.
7.) Click on your desktop, to exit the start menu.
8.) Right click <i>anywhere in an <b>empty</b> spot</i> on your desktop.
9.) Select paste within the small menu presented to you.
JOINING A GAME
10.) Double click the new icon '<i>Lauch Natural Selection</i>' on your desktop.
11.) Click Mutliplayer.
12.) Click Customize. Type your name in at the small box to the right. Using the name NSPlayer is not a good idea. For your name, type in the name Wickaman1234 because its your fourms name as well.
13.) Click 'Done'.
14.) Go into controls. Make sure every key in the control setup is to your liking.
15.) Click 'Done'.
16.) Click 'Internet Games.'
17.) Wait for the screen to load, and in the lower left, click 'filter.'
18.) Check the box next to the following cattagories.
-Are Responding
-Have People Currently Playing
-Are Not Full
-Now, check off 'is running game', and in the box, select 'ns'.
19.) Click done.
20.) Click update.
21.) After the grey box goes away, double click any server on the list.
22.) Your now in-game. Walk to either green text sign of these two -- <b>Join Marines</b> or <b>Join Aliens</b>
23.) You will now join the team that the green text indicates when you step into the doorway/pod behind the text itself.
Your now in game, have fun. Ask plenty of questions on how to play though.
One last note: There is something called CD. Its cheating death, and its a cheat detector of a sort. Some servers require that you run this software to jion their game, but currently on your computer it is not installed. Try to join another server until your in game. Have fun, good luck. Hope this helps. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
