Hi I was hoping someone could help me with getting NS mapping up and running. I have the Hammer Editor and I tried setting it up for NS but was unsuccessful. I can start making maps and using NS textures but when I try to "Run" a map it wont load. I have a start point and a light source in my nice cosy room so I should think it would work. Thanks for your help.

Check the snark pit and learn how to map in HLDM first....then move up to the intermediate level NS

indeed, if its not found on server then its not been compiled or placed in ya map folder, simple tbh =)

WTH all the "mappers" (that means "noobwannabe´s") feel to start mapping for ns and still spamming this forum with the same question day by day? maybe some cant read. maybe some dont know that "where the compiled map has to be placed?" is not a problem that has to be dicussed. know there will be some "dont flame noobs, dont answer a thread when you dont have something constructive to say!" maybe the admins find a way stopping this annoying flood...

Sniper - the very first person who replied said that and more. Stop posting for no reason just to raise your post count.

what is my post count 6?
  • AzraielAzraiel Join Date: 2003-01-27 Member: 12868Members
yes, make sure your bsp is in your maps folder, and make sure you have an info_mapinfo entity in your map, that is what makes it an ns map and have it show up on your map list.
  • ShadowicsShadowics Join Date: 2002-11-07 Member: 7652Members
Your post count is 6 because one of the moderators reset it because of all the spamming you were doing.

    Yea, you spammed....

Too bad they didnt ban you.

Better yet: Deleted from the database.
  • ShadowicsShadowics Join Date: 2002-11-07 Member: 7652Members
Actually the info_mapinfo isn't required. A testing map will run fine without it, but Commander mode and the minimap would be screwed up.
  • PapercutPapercut Join Date: 2003-01-23 Member: 12656Members
All you really need to test a map is the info_playerstart.
  • Turgoz_TenhammersTurgoz_Tenhammers Join Date: 2003-07-12 Member: 18122Members
Thanks, I was still having a little trouble still running it so I reinstalled it from scratch, I think it was having trouble because it was in my D drive in a different folder. I think it is working now.

And to Lt. Gravity, I happen to have had some experience mapping with Unreal engine but I was unfamiliar with the Valve system. I am sorry I wasted your 5 seconds that it took you to read my post and move on but I looked very hard for other information on this before I posted. The Snark pit was down at the time (maybe still is?) and the Valve ERC doesn't have alot of information for NS.

I think lt.gravity is a bit on edge due to a recent newbie that joined the forums a few days ago. since then
he has managed to get his post count up to well over 150 (mostly (if not all) spam). He got reset tho. Wish
someone would ban him. Yes, newbies all deserve a bit of patience, but this one...well, theres no suitable
    word to describe this guy.

    So much for monsieurs request regarding newbies. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

    amen to that.

but when a newb keeps yellin', it gets annoying. And he's done 150 posts worth of yelling in 4 days.

In my eyes its sowhat annoying. every week there areover 20 topics with 2Im a noob please help me!" in the title. I admit... that we were noobs once. shure I dont know how to use the func_weldable to my needs <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> but if you spend 4 years with figuring out how worldcraft works, how hl works, how to lower the r_speeds, what func_wall?s are good for,... its annoying when you realize that some of the guys dont even try too hard to get things work. I seems to me all the beginning mappers (left out "noob" here, more likely "greehorn" <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> ) for hl start or feel starting with ns. guys: ns is really hard stuff. all the years of hl-"experience" are only worth little when starting for ns. take your time, lern how to do things and most important: if you create a box with necessary entities DONT RELEASE IT AND CALL IT A MAP! be patient. in my rmf folder there are nearly 20 conzept maps/mapparts that never got finished but I lerned so much in creating it. maybe if beginning mappers get morepatient, some veterans will help them to create ns fitting maps. thats what its all about, isnt it? creating ns maps. not to mention "boxmaps", "dropmaps", "siege-maps" <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

Gravity's right. Try and figure things out for yourself before asking for help. NS is my first mapping for Half-Life, basically my first mapping in 3-D even. But I've only made a few posts asking for help. If I didn't know how to do something, I'd make a test map and figure it out (I didn't even know about snarkpit or Verc when I started) Know how many maps I've made to date? (counting each individual .map file as a map, when many are just boxes for testing how something-or-other works) 332! Know how many maps I've released? Just one so far. I'd still consider myself new to mapping. I don't even know how to make an ambient_generic work, that's one of the things on my list of things to figure out.

Yeah, and everything else Gravity said too.

Gonna quote Maus here (read the full post under the stickied thread by monsieurEvil (misspelled?))

<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->It seems like most people like to be spoon-fed information while only a handful would try to seek it
out themselves (by reading FAQs, searching the forums, etc). <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

What I suggest is some sort of blocker for people to post within 24 hrs of joining. That should keep many
non-serious people from messing about. Most of these people ignore rules thinking "these apply
only for normal people, I am Me and I do as I want.", don't read anything that doesn't fit their fancy, and
are generally ignorant/selfish. If you make 'em unable to post, that should either give them time to read the
rules/faq or discourage them from posting their trash altogether, and maybe even get them to read a
    tutorial (ideal, but not probable).
