<div class="IPBDescription">Bg music</div>ive read that the ns team will have to make some music before it is released. what kind of music is it and when is it played? winning sounds? i think it would be distracting to hear bgmusic..
Flayra favours orchestral music. Kind of like starwars or 2001. It really adds to the atmosphere. You can always turn it off if you don't like it, but it has been professioanlly produced.
ok its just when i play for ex. DoD (and i hope its the same feeling with NS) u have to concentrate on every sound around you.. kinda adds to the atmosphere i know but its not dynamic i think?
Yep, we've chosen classic orchestral music. It's less thematic and more ambient. It sets the mood but doesn't steal from the show. Of course, you can turn off the music anytime.
what about for the aliens? you have to have some weird music for the aliens <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->
About how many minutes worth of music is there? And will it be made so that when the song ends, it ends in a way so it sounds like its going on and on?
Very dramatic piece. In General's Daughter when Travolta walks in on the guy who committed suicide, you know the bloody cat and all that good stuff... that's the peice that was playing. Only problem, it's kinda doomsday-ish. It sounds like it was meant for playing at the Apocalypse. Well, when your Mozart I think you're allowed to be a little dramatic.

And from the piece Carmina Burana, if you're interested. Very, very good stuff, but not right for NS, I think. I would prefer something more ambient and original. O Fortuna brings to my mind unstoppable armies of tanks rolling across the plains...

I believe all music will be produced 'in-house' as the team do not want to be liable for royalties and/or have legal problems with copyrighted recordings, so it is futile for anyone else to ask for a certain piece to be included because it 'fits really well'.
Another reason why Flayra is the bomb. I mean Orchestral music? YEAH BABY, that will rule! <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->
Man, Carmina Burana, while admittedly an awesome piece of music, has got to be one of the most overused musical themes ever. Soooo many movies use it, and even more use it in their previews. I've started to notice that, since it has become kind of cliche from over use, movie previews have started using techno remixes of it instead, or Enigma songs that sample sections from it.
So, in short, even if we could use it we would rather stick to music that is unique for NS.
is the music in mp3 format? then u would need an ingame player. yeah yeah i know ive read somewhere that MonsE simply doesn't want to code it. but aren't this waves not i mean BIG?
Ultimate Doom end-level song, like in Gloom! <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->
Erm... I mean... How about.... Damn, the name escapes me at this moment... I think.... Blue Denube or something like that.... It's a waltz song. Well, the record companies trying to suck money out of 200 year old composers still have beef with it (########), but I really dont think the composers care anymore, they're too busy .<i>decomposing</i>
Music after it's so old isn't copyrighted (which is why ClassicFM doesn't have to pay many royalties - also why they only tend to put on older music). Recent classical music is usually copyrighted, though (when I say recent I mean like in the last 50 years, or something like that).
Mars Bringer of War is one of the most dramatic, sci-fi ready pieces of music ever written. I think it would be quite difficult to work into a game however. The best use of classical music in a game has to be Beethovens Moonlight Sonata in Resident Evil. Gave me goosebumps.
Presumably music recordings are copyright of the performers not the composer. So if you wanted to use one of the famous classical pieces you would have to seek permission form the orchestra that played it, rather than the long dead composer.
Classical orchestra music for marines and what for aliens? Not same music for both, maybe fast paced trance and acid music for aliens. Like something that makes you go crazy and just run around in rage <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo--> Dunno really. Or then something silent and weird threatning music for aliens.

But yeah. MP3 player built in. Been used for ambient noises, music, and something in my absolute favorite ReadyRoom of all time. ('Course, most of the RRs have ambient noises, but this one is special. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo--> )
Will the music get more agressive when being attacked?? <!--emo&:asrifle:--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/asrifle.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':asrifle:'><!--endemo-->

Sweet. Orchestral- and classical-type music is my favorite. Like, Star Wars style?
orchestral music fits very well in such a scenario IMO

Mars the God of War is a fun piece too...I can't remember at ALL who it's by. My Survey of Music class is fading...
So, in short, even if we could use it we would rather stick to music that is unique for NS.
but aren't this waves not i mean BIG?
it's a map entity called target_mp3audio and it's built right into the map.
With that code in place, I think it'd be pretty easy for the game code to call the same functions and play its own mp3s.

Not that it matters. I'm sure the music issue was settled long ago. :)
