O Replaced "Enhanced Sight" with "Pheromones". This upgrade leaves a pheromone trail behind all enemies in range, which is visible for 10 seconds. Each level increases range.

I think it leaves a (red) trail behind a bit like the jetpack which shows you where your enemy went.
But I'm just guessing of course.

Too bad it seems that scent of fear is lightyears better than pheromones...

I think the pheremones might be something like arse rainbow crowbar. The trails are quite funky actually. ARC:HL was prolly something to test the pheremones code or something. At least I think it is.

Technically they aren't pheromones anyway to begin with.

I think the ability in general should be changed as it doesn't seem that useful. Especially compared to cloaking :/

cloaking? are you kidding?

Scent of fear all the way (even in 1.04 when it only picks up wounded enemies!)

I very rarely use cloaking. In fact, I'm using mostly enhanced sight on dark maps, and SoF on the rest. As lerk, SoF rocks when you have the spores. My main issue with SoF is how it can impair your view (like most of your hive sight) when you round a corner or stuff like that, when it's still up. Cloaking is only good with silence, as the sound of cloaking can be a killer. (hoping they don't have MT as well)

Sorry for reviving this one, but I was wondering about how the pheromone trail would look.
Thought it would be better to bring this topic up again instead of making another one

How indeed, *should* we imagine a pheromone trail (PT's, vets?).
My main issue is, if you take the upgrade, and you run into an enemy base, would you walk into a room that's clouded with pheromone trails? Would it obscure your sight?

Thx

If one followed a marine with the ability, you would see a trail of waist high yellow clouds roughly a lerk length apart. When there are many marines all over the place, it can get fog of warish. It pales compared to SoF however making a "cool idea but not really useful" ideas.

SoF and this new Pheromone are great, but I still find cloak is far better for keeping you alive. NO I haven't used Pheromone d'uh, but its just like Sent of fear but on all the time, not just with people who are dying.

I still think Cloak and Silence is the way to go in 2.0, if they can't see you, or hear you, you could ride there backs and they would never know!

Unfortunately it seems pheramones will rank as the least used upgrade ever. I can't see any reason to take pheramones over SoF. Any. I'm honestly not sure why it's being left in, except as a novelty for aliens playing with their food.

I'm confused as to why people wouldn't use this...

If it's as I imagine it...

Your hive is subspace...
you walk into mess hall and see a streak going up the stairs.. you know a marine is going to base.. so you can call out to your team mates regardless if the other player is parasited or not...

Or you come to Cargo and see a large "fog" going towards fusion... you can let your teammates know that a large group of marines are in fusion....

I'd imagine it would be great for tracking marines even if you can't hear them, or see them.. you could figure out where they were headed.

Except the new SoF now puts ALL marines on hivesight, not just injured ones.

If you have ever played AvP when you play as alien without hunting vision on you see a blueish field outlining the marines for easier targeting, those are phermones oh and im terribly sorry about the huge picture for all you 56kers i really have no clue what the NS versions are going to be like but these are AvP versions the red is alien phermones

I have now idea why any one would use pheromones when they can use the wall hack (Scent o' Fear ). Then again I can't think of an alternative that would be used but wasn't overpowered. Until some one does I can't wait to see pheromones.

How about replacing pheromones with an upgrade that lets you read their team chat and hear their teamspeak, or see their waypoints and build orders. That would make much more sense to have some sort of nano-grid hacking upgrade, because it goes along with the idea of sensory and doesn't duplicate what SoF does.
• TickTockTickTock Join Date: 2002-05-13 Member: 608Members
Seeing marine waypoints would be cool, but would have to be visual line of sight or small radius only, or it'd be WAY too powerful. Hmmm.

"Nanogrid Intercept"

I dont know, seeing a trail of a marine passing by doesnt seem all that useful. Especially when its replacing Ehanced Hive Sight. I use sound to tell where an enemy is going. So the upgrade has no real benefit to me. I can only think of a consequence of the ability... Marines hiding in dark places. Whoo, now they can hide better then a skulk, who has no form of flashlight. The only solution would be to parasite or if you're lucky SoF. Ive used Ehanced Hive Sight more then the others as I dont tune my gamma to the max. Going to be fun ...

To reply to zunni's post as to why people wouldn't want to use pheremones... as it stands right now, scent of fear picks up all local marines despite if they're hurt or not. Pheremones are sorta useless in comparison, cause you see where they've been, not where they are.
Perhaps if scent of fear went back to being damage based, it would work out better.

Ahhh didn't realize.. but I guess my big question back would be....

Using SOF, can you see a marine that is 10 seconds away at a full run?? Or would that be outside the SOF's range..

With the pheromones, you could see thier trail and still track them, right??

Or am I WAY off on this one..

Yes, unless they made a dead run away (no turns or anything) and even then it's iffy. However the ability to see incoming marines is much more useful than an iffy following the runaway.

how bout something to counter the motion tracking thingy(so aliens can't be seen on motion tracking), or is that too none sensory :/

Sensory towers block MT in their cloaking range.
