2.0 Cpu Usage

Part of the PR blitz?
Anyone suspect that CPU usage statistics be part of the PR blitz info?

It would be very helpful for us server admins and for hosting companies to have some information ahead of time. I am currently working with a hosting company (pro bono) trying to help them offer NS servers at competitive prices. But without CPU usage information it is hard to judge.

Thx.

Yeah, it would be nice for some exact and 'official' statistics to be released but I assume the servers are still undergoing final testing and optimization so they might not want to release the information until they are sure that those statistics will be valid on release date.

The most I've heard concerning CPU usage is that it's been greatly reduced (once by flayra ages ago and once by Monse), heard an UNCONFIRMED rumour that it is approximately 70% less resource hungry and another UNCONFIRMED rumour that it will use approximately twice as much resources then a CS server of the same size/player count.

As a beta op i just now got it working. I cannot confirm or deny anything at this point but i can say that the performance is AWSOME compared to 1.04. an exact % i cannot report at this time. But i can tell you we had 6 straight performance builds in a day if that says anything.

Give us a hint.... Like uhm, If a server (p4 2.4, 512 ddr, really big pipe) is at 100% cpu with 18 players, how many more players (or more servers) could be held on this given machine? Roughly.

CJM, myself or one of the other server ops will get back to you after we test the latest build with a full server. We already know the Win32 server works well. joev has been hard at work on the Linux build, squeezing every drop of performance and compiling in every optimizing trick known. Bottom line, it might take a little bit of testing with various maps before we can give a solid answer.

when you give us a spec can you plz make sure the comparison is on the same comp using 1.04 and v2 maxed out so then we have a stable basis for a comparison. I have contacted some server providers about how much hey drastically gonna cut prices for ns servers.

well I can't speak for others but if NS 2.0 performance is atleast similar to that of DoD currently GriffinRUN will most likely drop prices to that of all our other games.

Based on what everyone involved in the testing process has indicated I would be extremely surprised if we didn't see the performance we've been waiting for.
