If you bind multiple words/commands, " " should be used, use the following example:

bind "x" "say hello, blah blah blah"

etc. after editing, save it, and if your .cfg isnt named autoexec, you need to type exec configname in console for the changes to take affect.

i know how to bind and all that, but any changes i make to my config.cgf dont stay.

ex: i open up nstoolbox, make a bind, and paste it into the config.cgf that was allready in my ns directory, and save it.
Load up the game, and play usings whatever bind, working fine.
    quit game

go back in 10 mins to play some more, load up the game, and try to use the bind, it doesnt work
go and check my ns directory, and everything in my config.cgf has returned to the way it was before i edited it, like i never did anything

Hmm..no clue what's causing that. Do you have multiple NS dirs?

for custom binds, like say-scripts, etc.. it's best to use a DIFFERENT config file

like, make a file, and call it

    autoexec.cfg

put it in your NS directory

    add any scripts there
    ------------------------------
    alias hey "say what up"
    bind x hey

    bind y "say yo dawg"
    -------------------------

then save and close the file

launch half life, bring down the console, and type
    exec autoexec.cfg

after you type it once, AUTOEXEC.CFG will be executed everytime you start half life
however, if you name it something else like custom.cfg, it won't get run everytime you start halflife, but AUTOEXEC.cfg will.

    hope this helps

How about just disabling the Write Protection for the Config.cfg file

    He means NOT enabling it

if it still doesn't work, make a seperate cfg file and make your autoexec.cfg exec your new cfg file

Uhm, I have the exact problem as well...

I'd like to add voice_loopback 1 and cl_showfps 1 to my config so I don't have to type it every time.
I edited my config file, saved it, went into NS, it worked, went out, wnet in again and it didn't work anymore <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

My config file is NOT read-only, I don't have multiple dirs, I always use the same dir/exe, and it's totally vanilla, so I didn't do any modifications.

meh if your config file is called '<b>extra.cfg</b>',you would add this line in your <b>autoexec.cfg</b> file....

    <!--c1--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>CODE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='CODE'><!--ec1-->exec extra.cfg<!--c2--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--ec2-->

simple as that <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> Just make sure you don't use your scripts for cheating and all....

OMG I used the holy apostrophes....:/ and the stupid 4 dots....doh!

making your config read-only should prevent things like that.
