This movie made me want to stab myself in the face until I could no longer see or hear the movie because of teh pain. Frankly I was amazed that Scorsese was actually capable of making a film that is this bad.

i loved it.

the ending sequence with the time delay crap was pretty cheesy, but that was only 1% of the movie.

I hated this movie, I swear to god it was total crap, it was so boring! All it was 90% of the time was talking and blood, it sucked so much ****. out of 100 points I would give it a 5.

Talking and blood. Well, as opposed to silent films I dont know of any movies where talking dosnt take up a significant amout of time. I liked it quite a bit, Daniel Day Lewis is an excellent actor.

I thought it was a good film. They could've chopped off some minutes IMO though (pun intended )

Too bad the army had to rain on everyone's parade at the end... was looking forward to a repeat of the first battle

Yeah - the stuff about voting (typical propaganda about how they can do something so life-changing in a new country) seemed to detract from the bloodsoaked core of the film. Even so, it didn't cause the film to DRAG or anything - I felt shocked when it ended and I realised how long I'd actually sat on my seat!

I think its one of the most amazing movies I've ever seen. I don't think I've ever seen a movie that so brilliantly displayed such a wide range of emotions in the characters.

I watched the first disc of the dvd, and got sick of the filler scenes and lack of explanation of the plot. I never put in the second disc.

I thought gangs of new york as over rated...It was waaayyyy too slow! The ending of the movie ruined it...I was so excited to see some big **** war...not the gangs gettin their **** kicked by the army. If it WOULD have had the fight scene in the end, I probably would have liked it a lot more.

• MulletMullet Join Date: 2003-04-28 Member: 15910Members, Constellation
The only cool thing in the movie was Bill the Butcher. Not only was he a good actor, but the name and his roll just kick major ****!
• MoquiaoMoquiao Join Date: 2003-05-09 Member: 16168Members
hmm that was the guy with the cavman type club from the beginning?

i liked the first fight scene... and did any of you notice that the little version of DiCaprio actually looked like him....

the only thing i didnt like was the fish hooking.... at the beginning when you saw the guy sort of rip someones face off. it wasnt pleasnt lol

there are alot of mixed views... maybe it is an aquired taste...

GoNY = Great movie. Think. It was academy award nominated.

You people just don't remember how to think or wait. For the most part.

So many injustices.

Daniel Day Lewis lost to Adrian Brody

Martin Scorscese lost to Roman Polansky

The movie itself lost to Chicago (terrible, absolutely terrible)

So many people to kill to right the wrongs. So little time.

So basicly what you're saying is "I'm right you're wrong". I'm sorry if I don't like to watch talking that takes place 90% of the time in a 3-4 hour movie, the only action was at the begining, and that wasen't really even action, it was just hack n slash with machetes and other various sharp objects, I'm not a total action freak, but I want SOMETHING to happen in a movie, theres a difference between boring and no patience, Gangs of new york was BORING.

WTH the movie had a plot? I thought it was just a long piece of crap with meaningless dialogue stuck in. Seriously the "plot" was a piece of crap. You killed daddy, so I'm gonna kill j00! Oh and the advertisement 'Amercia was born in the streets".... WTH? This was set during the civil war, I'm fairly certain that America had long since been born.

If by actioin you mean violence, there was plenty of that all the way through the movie.. it just wasn't ALL on a large scale. There were two or three larj encounters.
I found the movie quite entertaining, pretty brutal really.

I found the movie technically well made, and as such a tribute.

Now that that's out of the way. I found myself straining in a vain attempt to be entertained by this movie. The filler detracted from what story there was. The story itself felt stitched together along a crude spine. I really can't say I liked the film.
