<!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> Well i am a pretty good CS map maker but with NS its kinda new to me, <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/nerd.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd.gif'><!--endemo--> . I have a realy awsome idea for a map and i keep getting these errors but i cant figure out why:

Warning: === LEAK in hull 0 ===
Entity func_resource @ ( 0,1376, 0)
Error:
A LEAK is a hole in the map, where the inside of it is exposed to the
(unwanted) outside region. The entity listed in the error is just a helpful
indication of where the beginning of the leak pointfile starts, so the
beginning of the line can be quickly found and traced to until reaching the
outside. Unless this entity is accidentally on the outside of the map, it
probably should not be deleted. Some complex rotating objects entities need
their origins outside the map. To deal with these, just enclose the origin
brush with a solid world brush

Warning: === LEAK in hull 1 ===
Entity info_team_start @ (-128,1088, 48)
Warning: === LEAK in hull 2 ===
Entity info_team_start @ ( 384,1088, 48)
Warning: === LEAK in hull 3 ===
Entity info_team_start @ (-128,1088, 48)

If anyone knows how to fiz this PLZ reply. thanks <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::onos::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tiny.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tiny.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::marine::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/marine.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='marine.gif'><!--endemo-->

    In Halflife mapping a Leak is a Leak, no matter what mod you're making it for.

    Why are people so aggressive?

    He has a problem and look for help so don't tell him to go to hell....

    You are at the right place, this is a NS mapping forum so here we are. Noone get upset about the stupid fun map that everybody can do in a second, so why get mad at him?

    If you have a leak, there is no difference with CS, you have to make around your entity so that it doesnt leak anymore. One way to find those leaks is to make a huge box around the leaking room, and when it works then you found the leaking room, and then a box around the walls..... go by elimination...

    If you need my help here is my msn messenger address f4f_ender@hotmail.com

    Your map is like a spaceship. And if you have a hole in your HULL to the OUTSIDE VOID then you've got a leak and everyone DIES! (in real life). So what you have to do is find your leak and close it up. There are many different leak finding methods, all of while are probably documented well <a href='http://collective.valve-erc.com/' target='_blank'>here</a> and <a href='http://www.chatbear.com/board.plm?a=boardlisting&b=9&v=flatold' target='_blank'>here.</a>

    Anyone want to bet he made the roofs of all his rooms func_seethrough?
  • ShadowicsShadowics Join Date: 2002-11-07 Member: 7652Members
    That's a posibility. Why do newbies have that problem so much anyway? NS was the first HL mapping I did and just from reading one tutorial I knew not to have entities on the outside. From mapping in CS you would know not to make the roof of your map a func_wall wouldn't you?

    I never mapped before NS. I had alot of nubie questions and got alot of help here. But if I was just starting now, I'd be afraid to ask anything here. I see alot of just plain meaness here lately. Sad......these guys are the future of NS, help them out a little. Takes just as long to post some help as it does to b#tch at these guys.

    I'm sorry if I came across a little harsh. I never mapped before NS either. I downloaded Hammer and was getting nowhere fast. Instead of posting a question I noticed the thread for Quark and decided to give it a try. Finding it more intuitive I when to google and found a basic tutorial someplace I don't even remember, and got started. When I didn't know how something worked, or why it wasn't working right, which was every 5 minutes at first, I made a new map, hollowed a box, stuck whatever I was trying to figure out in there and recompiled it a dozen times or more trying different things until it worked. I've only posted a few times with questions and that was after searching the forums, VERC, and snarkpit. The rules for this forum being for NS questions only has long been ignored by the mods as far as I can see. In some places a mod would have deleted this thread for being off-topic as soon as they saw it. Having been here for awhile, I've helped out quite a few people with questions, but seeing simple questions that shouldn't require a thread being made can be irritating. Whenever I go to click the 'Reply' button I try to think to my self, "is what I'm going to say important or useful?", more than once I've decided I really didn't have anything to add, and clicked the back button. I think things would better if more people would think first, and read all the other replies also, before posting. And the same for making a new thread.

    If you think he is stupid, then don't answer or help him but don't insult him. When you are in the street and someoneask you what time is it, do you tell him that he is an idiot because you learnt how to read time when you were 5 and you bought a clock? NO! so why do you think that everything is acceptable on a forum?
    Learn politness, and kindness and stop being aggressive all the time, because I'm sure that one day you will also be the idiot of someone else.

    Scott is right, people only talk about themselves on this forum lately, and don't even answer to other people questions.

    I personnaly don't look at all the old answers too because I have a 56K and that would take too long, but Yes I use google a lot.

    I think what some people are trying to say is, we do try our best to help people here its just some questions seem to be like they have just looked here first without searching previous threads or websites, espeically with a leak its quite a obvious reason to why it pops up, plus there has been many threads and tutorials around the halflife community talking about the matter, i think thats why people get a bit picky <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> i dont personally mind helping out

    Both of these places have some good resources and have forums more suited to discussion regarding generic HL mapping problems such as this.

    Ok, if everyone would read the mapping forum FAQ s/he would not post basic mapping questions here. Some of us wonder why newbies don't read the FAQ? Too lazy... better don't map. Or is it not obvious enough? Should the FAQ get another title like ... I don't know, it already says: Read here before posting!
    And I don't always want to say: Read this FAQ thread and come back afterwards so I think of something else like er... get out of here you bloody newb and search for it. I mean: the mapping guidelines are a must read. And after reading alot of forum spam would not be created. Would you say it should be moved further up in the FAQ and highlited some more? I know when I want to find answers quickly I sometimes don't have the coolness to scroll through an FAQ to *maybe* find something of use. And then I would think: What does a forum FAQ got to do with LEAKs???

    [sigh] I came on to this forum to ask a question about a mapping problem i have. Apparently because its not strictly specified in the faq that that's allowed, people have the right to flame others asking for help in mapping. I think its only right to be able to ask questions about mapping difficulties in a mapping forum.

    Sort of. This is an NS mapping forum, and as such it's for NS mapping. If you have a generic HL question like "how do I make doors work" it's better to look for a tutorial (of which there are many) or try forums of HL editing sites like Valve-ERC.

    Although I agree with you that flaming is uncalled for and should not be happening.

    You are very right about what you said, and I agree at 100 percent. I just don't like people who are aggressive on a forum just because they think that you can say all you want on internet.
    I just made my first map and I shown it to snarkpit forum and as an answer I had something like "Why do you map for NS, it's for the best mapper, you should give up mapping", do you think that is a way to motivate people to map? Would you say that in the real life? If so you are a jerk.
    That's my opinion :-)

    I think that this mapping forum is too general and there is too many messages per day, so people don't get time to answer -- and we are spammed with some fun map, that are no fun at all. Do you really consider Mario bross map like NS map? I don't and those map shouldn't be published on this forum

    I await your opinion about that.

    Well at least funmaps still have two teams and ns entities, so they should stick here. Also some people who are new to mapping for Half-Life and only play NS don't have a chance but start with a funmap or they will create an unbalanced badlooking entity lacking, erroneous map. So yes, fun maps should be presented here as well imo. Ollj's and Gimpy's funmaps even have a degree of professionalism that others can learn from.

    The leak is on spawn and resource nossle entities and i did not make the ceiling func_seethrough
  • NerdIIINerdIII Join Date: 2003-04-05 Member: 15230Members
    How can THE leak be at several locations at once? The compile tools usually spit out one entity. The one that is closest to the leak. Usually you either have
    an entity in the void or in a wall
    a tiny gap between two walls even though you thought it was all aligned <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
    or you have a corner and you carved out some stuff to place a detailed object there. This can result in hard to find mini-leaks.
    Have you already read the threads about leak-finding?
    Or have you even found these entities with the methods mentioned there? Maybe you used the big block method and left an entity inside one of these blocks?
