2.0 Installer...

<div class="IPBDescription">will it replace the config files?</div> i just wanted to know, when 2.0 is released, will the installer replace the config files completely and set you with default buttons? and if i backed the old ones up, would they still work with 2.0? i was wondering because, i, and many other people have aliases/config files/whatever people call them for team talk binds etc...

also, will it delete any non-default files (such as the new config files)?

thanks in advance <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Nope, if you have an existing NS installation the installer grabs a copy of your config.cfg and 'patches' it with some of the extra settings added lately.

    If you have never installed NS before, it uses your config.cfg from your half-life/cs retail/dod retial installation, and adds in all the NS pieces for you.

    Still.. it might not hurt to make a backup of your config files before you install.. It takes what? 1 min and less then a meg of hd space

    What about models, sounds, sprites? Will those be over written?

    probably

    2.0 is gona be a total install (Aint it? no patches from 1 ot 2?)

    there are new weapon sprites, as well as alot of hud stuff has probably been changed (nay I know that there are a good number changed)

    simple solution is to just back up any custom ones and then reinstall them <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    again, if it takes you a min to back up a file... thee is something wrong <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    select files, hit cntrl+c, rename files to file.extension.bak, hit cntrl+v <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Not exactly overwritten - here's the way it works:

    The install runs. It detects if you have an existing NS directory under your half-life/cs/dod root. It then prompts you about either backing up your current NS dir or replacing it. If you say 'backup' (which is the default choice, for all those knuckleheads that hit enter through installs without reading the prompts) it *renames* your existing NS directory to 'ns.1.04.backup', and then installs cleanly into a new, empty NS directory. If you say 'don't backup', it *deletes* your existing NS directory, and then installs cleanly. In either case it grabs a copy of your config.cfg for safe keeping later on in the process. In no case will ever actually patch your files in the real sense of that word, as that does not always work properly in HL or mods.

    That's the basics of it. If you just click 'next' all the time, you will have a backup of your old files. You have to make a conscious decision to change that process, when prompted.

    Hopefully that clears it all up. There will be a 2.0 installer changelog this weekend, for the final version. I had lots of requests for enhancements after the last build, and this one should be *it*.
