<div class="IPBDescription">Lack of playtime</div> So last night I have a break from the little lady (yes a real one) and have just installed NS off of a magazine cover disc. I log on and…18 players online…no room on server for any more…can’t play…reduced to setting up own games and walking around map on lonesome gawking at scenery (stunning, absolutely stunning).
How can a game with over a million downloads to date only have 18 players online? From scouting the forums and reading the FAQ’s etc. I have gleaned that a majority of NS players are Americans. Now I believe that gaming is a global experience, I play StarCraft against Koreans (very popular with Koreans and they are viciously crafty players), Homeworld Cataclysm against Australians, Day Of Defeat with Germans (yes I am aware of the irony of an Englishman playing a Nazi stormtrooper against a load of Germans playing U.S. Marines but hey, it’s a new world and we are over all that now) and occasionally Flashpoint with the Dutch, and I certainly wouldn’t have any issues with playing NS with the US except for the fact that due to time differences US players are either at work or asleep (excluding those that do neither) when I am warring in the week. There will be some overlap at weekends but I’m rarely free at weekends.
So where are the UK players? Someone let me know please ‘cos I am dying to play this game properly. A community that helps new players (sometimes with a certain degree of condescension though, eh), shuns 12 year old psycho-keyboard monkeys who only converse in SMS Txt talk and call you a loser (or worse, generally worse) when they kill you and hax0r scum if you kill them, ejects flamers, cheaters, sore losers and idiots of all types should be supported to the utmost.
Come on Britain, lets be Great. Support NS in the UK!! Find me somewhere to play in the evening.

heres a list of the UK servers i have
213.230.205.100:27015 **** Brits! - Natural Selection 1.04
194.117.138.230:27016 bygames.com Natural Selection v1.05 #01
194.117.138.235:27015 bygames.com Natural Selection v1.05 #02
194.117.138.234:27015 bygames.com Natural Selection v1.05 #03
213.221.175.101:27017 BarryServer - -=CBX=- .::. Pasture Fields
195.149.21.239:27015 Plan 9 from outer space NS 1.04+ [CDReq]

212.42.13.23:27025 - ^NuT^ Clan server. I play here quite often because it gives me a low ping for 56k and the games are good.
212.42.10.167:27018 - [eH] Clan server. I only usually play here if the above ones are full/empty but it gives nice ping also.
Other than those i play on the Bygames servers. Roob's has some great players also but i always lag out harshly on it.
Its an 18 player server, but its full most nights. We also run 2 reserved slots for admins and clan members so you may have to wait a while for a free slot on the server.
- If your new to ns i'm sorry if that seemed harsh but i got my point across.
<a href='http://www.udpsoft.com/eye/' target='_blank'>http://www.udpsoft.com/eye/</a>
Scan for NS, then use the filters to find UK based games, easy.
I'm in the UK and I have no problem getting a list of around 200 servers with decent ping.
<a href='http://www.hybriduk.net/downloads/serverlist.jpg' target='_blank'>Kar-aK's ASE Server list here</a>
Hope that helps.

Make sure your talking about the new Roob's server > we have cured all our lag problems <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
GSA work fine as long as you dont filter for servers in your country! It cant work that bit out.
<!--QuoteBegin--Eaglec+--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> (Eaglec)</td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->OK here we go. If you want to find servers there are loads of utilities, some web based, some free, some advert supported and some your *supposed* to pay for the most popular are All Seeing Eye and Gamespy Arcade, .hlla and hlsw are quite strong too, then there are some web based ones like serverspy and gametiger (I think), the links you will need are:-
<a href='http://www.udpsoft.com/eye2/index.html' target='_blank'>All Seeing Eye</a> $10 shareware after free trial
<a href='http://www.gamespyarcade.com' target='_blank'>Gamespy Arcade</a> $add supported
<a href='http://www.hlsw.net' target='_blank'>HLSW</a> FREE
<a href='http://www.hlla.net' target='_blank'>.hlla</a> FREE
<a href='http://www.serverspy.net' target='_blank'>ServerSpy.net</a> Web based & FREE
<a href='http://www.gametiger.net' target='_blank'>GameTiger</a> Web based & FREE
Which one is better? Well thats been argued to death, lets not start it off again here.
Try one and if you like it - stick with it.

also I'd like to plug <a href='http://ns1.muppetking.com:27015' target='_blank'>this page</a> again <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

The Roobsters are slowly invading these forums... *evil laughter* <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
Have fun playing, take some time to learn the game, and then you'll love it <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
If the server has people on it I'll be on there most nights and if you ask me nicely I'll change the map for you <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

I'm talking about the new one. I don't know exactly why but i got a lower ping on the old server (180-200) than i do on the new one (300-400). Is it because of the extra mods installed? I don't think it's because of the increased slots because i've noticed, for example, a 16 player game on Roob's being laggier than a 16 player game on many others.

Well thats a pretty abismal ping for either server <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo--> (there are no more mods running on the new server, its a dual P4-2.4 (the old one was an old athlon xp1400) neither the server or the internet connection ever break a sweat any more. It's based in London rather than Oxford which added 5ms or so to my ping so I normally get around 80 when its near capacity on hera, or 30-50 in a normal game.
At the moment there are 14 players on ns_nothing and the games been on for over 30 minutes:-<!--c1--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>CODE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='CODE'><!--ec1-->

Only Moomin's ping seems high and I think he's on 56k in Canada. Not sure there's much we can do this end about your pings but if you want to e-mail me some of your connection details (isp, line speed, username, last connection date) I'll take a look and see what I can suggest.
2. My ping on the old roob's was 12-25 (go!go!go! dutch cable!) and on the new one it's 30-50
So in general it's higher, but it's more STABLE, and that's very important as well, and my ping of 35 is definately playable.
Maybe you can come into the server sometime and Eag can actively help you look for the problem?
*looks at Eaglec <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif'><!--endemo-->
Good luck
usually fills up late evening, hope to see you there
Problem must be the time of day you check Ns at?
p.s eaglec i've sent you a PM with some further info.
