PLAYABLE AT QUAKECON 2003
Santa Monica, CA - July 23, 2003 - Prepare for DOOM 3™! id Software™ and Activision, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI) are bringing DOOM 3 to QuakeCon 2003. The world's most legendary multiplayer gaming event will host the first-ever opportunity for fans to play DOOM 3 multiplayer. In Dallas at the Adam's Mark Hotel from Aug. 14 - 17, QuakeCon attendees will go toe-to-toe at the Activision/id Software booth in the ultimate sneak preview of the most anticipated game ever.
"What better way to celebrate QuakeCon than to unveil to our fans a preview of DOOM 3 multiplayer," said Todd Hollenshead, CEO, id Software. "While everyone knows that DOOM 3 is the most terrifying and scary single player experience ever created, multiplayer delivers the intense competitive action that our fans can count on. It's a natural to debut the DOOM 3 multiplayer experience at QuakeCon, the world's preeminent fan-based multiplayer gaming event."

Too bad none of you other guys signed up for Quakecon when I told you to several months ago... Tsk tsk tsk. Oh well, I'll just play DOOM 3 DM against random nubs instead of you not-so-random nubs :)
I'm very anxious to see how it plays. I hope its more like old school DOOM dm than Quake DM (not that both aren't great)

So so so so so so true.

Notice how Doom 3 is below Air port tycoon 2 ?
(PS I always hated Quake DM and always thought Doom was about the single player anyway?)
....although this might be a sad attempt by you to make yourself feel better about the delay ......
....../me gives you more valium
* Hides in corner.*
BTW doom there is a xbox magazine i saw with a 2 hour preview of Doom 3 on it if your interested, though it may just be U.K only, have a look around in your local store if your interested.
Ha, bulls Dodge this.
When you're back, tell us how many players are really supported, and I'll set it up in the swearword filter, so that that old myth gets finally dispelled

You aren't jealous that he's going to the nation's biggest LAN? Where by the way they play HL, UT, and from what I hear have tons of previews for upcomming games from E3, like DOOM mentioned. I also hear they will have PC Halo there.
That's all my comments were about, I know HL2 will sell bigger and be better than Doom 3 but it's still silly to say which game is better for sure before playing either.
But really, I spend less than half the time there actually gaming in the LAN area, as there's so much other stuff to do. Upcoming games (not just id engine games) are shown so its kinda like a mini-E3. There are tons of presentations/workshops/etc given by id, Raven, the mod communities, and so forth. Without a doubt my favorite event of the whole trip is the annual mod roundtable, where mod teams (from all game engines) get together and talk about stuff that interests us. One year John Carmack stepped in to talk to use about the (as of then upcoming) Quake III engine and get our take on certain issues. Last year Jake Simpson and some others from Raven spent about an hour getting our opinion on the importance of multiplayer in Quake 4. Cool stuff.
Quakecon is just loads of fun. :D
I honestly don't think Doom3 will be quite so erradicated by Half-Life 2. They are both going to be incredible games, and I honestly think they will play very differently. HL seems to be going for the cinematic action feel, like an interactive movie almost. Doom 3 seems to be aiming more at horror action. The flows will be quite different.
HL2: Walk, puzzle, combat, cinematic event, combat, puzzle, walk, repeat.
Doom3: Walk, walk, horror moment, combat combat combat combat combat combat walk, take a breather... repeat. :-)
I know its ludacris people, but just give it a try...
I don't know who started this whole "beating" thing in the first place, the only thing Doom 3 and HL2 have in common is that they are both FPS.
They are going to be so dramatically different you can't even really compare them. HL2 will focus on interactive enviorments and open-endedness, and a massive multiplayer while Doom 3 focuses on a very scripted single player that plays sort of like a resident evil, it will be very atmospheric and will manipulate YOU not you it. HL2's engine focuses on phsyics and enviroment, Doom 3's engine focuses on graphics and atmosphere.
So it's a matter of PREFERENCE in terms of which game will be better.
All that said HL2>all.

An excellent statement, but ultimately flawed, Scarface - here on the intarweb, you are only allowed to like one thing at a time. If most readers were apps, they'd be single-threaded 16-bit with hard-coded paths.

Something about zombies that always gives me "the willies".

You should play in one of my Call of Cthulhu games then My Zombies are particularly nasty.

Phew, I was starting to feel like a geek's geek for laughing at that analogy! Of course, being a CS major graduating in December might be part of it...
Twilight
HALO 2 IS GONNA PWN YOUR FACE OFF
I agree, HL2 and Doom3 will be completely different, and comparing them (although very easy to do as we've just seen) is simply a waste of time. Imo I think they're both gonna kick ****.
