does anyone use it???
I remember awhile back that the HL engine supported 3rd person view....dont remember the comand for it but i do remember that its very cpu intensive. If anyone remembers the comand pls tell me.
The reason I ask this is because ....does NS support this command?....and....i want to try it out when playing as sculk!!! I think it would help substaintually against pesky marines who strafe hop against you and you lose site of them.

drawview epidemic???
pls explain??
and why not??
i dont understand why it would make everything harder...cause i thought the only thing wrong with the command is that its cpu intensive on the person using the command.....

If they do, theyre cheating, and yes it does work.

who is it cheating?? ......what is the command??
/me yawns.
There were plenty of problems-The player model was so big that I couldn't see what was directly in front of me. Second, the marine's head obscured the croshair completely, making aiming pretty much....useless...
After the fact, I couldn't figure the commands out again to right this bit of insanity, so I reinstalled NS.
in summary: definitely not worth the trouble, you haxor.
But being curious I looked around and tryed it out just recently and heres what I found:
Essentially you become a floating-point camera that is centered around your model, not a true third person mode.
With the x-axis command you can rotate 360 degrees which, if bound to a set of keys, could basically make for 1-key press check all around you commands. Very exploitable.
Another command controls your y-axis, and thats less exploitable because if you have mouse look you can do that already. Basically it determines where the camera is set up or down in relation to the center of the model.
Lastly you have the z-axis, which moves the camera forward and backward. With this you are able to see some comical events (setting it to zero for instance) and less comical in which your able to zoom ahead. Although its usefulness as a zoom is debatable, since it does hinder your vision.
If there were a way to lock how far the x and z axis could be set, then sure, it could be kept in, otherwise...
Aside from just the camera controls however, there are some very real inhibitions to going third person.
First off, all sprites are disabled, your left with health, armor, ammo, resources, and what hive locations have hives. Motion Tracking doesnt show up, the alien hud doesnt work, as well as hive sight being disabled. This also includes upgrades to both sides.
Secondly, if you arent careful with your z-axis you can end up clipping into the wall, while this may be nice if your not sure how the hallway goes. It totally removes all friendly and enemy players, this alone is enough of a hinderence to not do it. Many a time I found myself clipping into the wall and losing track of my target, not until I found an ideal setting was gameplay manable.
Thats the summary of my experience with it, I strongly encourage that this option be disabled or at least limited in 2.0, it is far to open to abuse otherwise. Again, if any playtesters need to know these to get them locked out I will gladly PM all the commands I found, I would hate to see this become the next stopcommandermode or drawviewmodel for such a fine game.
Even if I knew the command, and wanted to tell you.. it would be deleted by a moderator, theres a chance I would be banned.
Its an exploit, don't try to figure it out, someone will find out and poof! you're off the server
Thats like posting the various exploits that are currently in the game with a topic like "NS2.0 Released Early, Look Here!"
then get everyone to know the exploits, and ruin the game until 2.0 comes out..
someone should post with that title and see how many views the topic gets
As for who is cheating... probably the same people with pistol scripts and aimbots..
can someone make an amx plugin that reenables u to leap exploit i wanna have that on my server
:DROOLS:
nukeaqua.. you seem to want to mess up your server-- balance wise..
Make sure you put a warning to people who join...
Why do I suspect this threads gonna be locked when I check tomorrow?
As for game uses...yeah, in games like JK and JK2...the melee weapons(Lightsaber) is MUCH more difficule from 1st person, but much easier with 3rd person, so you may wanna disable it, otherwise Skulking could be easier...
As for exploits: Most exploits i can think of have already been posted.
I dont think I would ever exploit the command. Dont like to cheat in games like these, not that fun. Just the low poly LMG in the dudes hand would look so cool!!
Heh.
Meh, I've tried it, and quite honestly it sucks, no matter what side your on. Sure you can look around corners, but thats about the only advantage. And besides, if your good at the game already you can use sound to tell where your oponents are.
thirdperson wasn't made for ns so its really not right, camera goes thru walls and doesn't come in as it hits the wall like in mods that configured 3rd person cam for the game.
Hmm, Coil, the method he posted does only work in a single player enviroment, as far as I know. At least I've never gotten <the command he posted> to work in any kind of multiplayer mode.
