Cl_FlushEntityPacket
hi all Ns fans. I got 2 problems, but one of them is very minor, while the other is major. whenever i join a game of NS, or any other half-life mod for that matter, especially DoD and CS, right from the beginning, or after a while of play, I get a little message in the topright of my screen:
[COLOR=red]CL_FlushEntityPacket
When I go into the console there is a constant stream of messages which are all the same saying:
CL_Parse event:received non-packet entity index 0 for event
When this happens my ping goes to 4000+ and I can't do a thing, once or twice it happened that it actually resumed the game and it worked again, but only for a little while and then the ping leaped up again. That's my major problem.
My minor problem is that when I put in the info for the filter, and then press update, all the servers that come up show a really bad connection. I use half-life for joining internet games. this doesn't happen when i join LAN games. Even though i press refresh it stays the same. only when i click on a server,right-click, and select: refresh selected server does it actually show the proper speed of the server.
Here's my comp spec
AMD Athlon 1.4GHz
TNT 2 Model 64/Model 64 Pro
Onboard Sound
512MB SD-Ram
56k modem
These problems only started recently, and before that I never had a ping of over 400, it was usually around 250, not perfect, but definitely playable.
I hope someone can help

Both your problems have a relationship though, and that is that you are not conecting to healthy, close-proximity servers. I would point you to this pinned thread with server browser apps and how to get a closer server. Closer servers means that the your flushent issues may go away (not *going* to, but may - but this is a simple way to find out if it's the server ping issue causing it).
The fact that your pings have recently gotten bad points to an issue with your connection itself though, if you have not made software or HL changes. Line noise, a faulty modem, bad wiring, etc. can creep up out of nowhere.
Write back and tell us how things go!

More Notes on ASE:
you can (and it is rather simple) tell it to only find servers in your area (USA, SAmerica, Canada, England etc etc etc). Then continue this by telling it to show you only server under say 400 ping.
But yah, this is all network related (as said lag spikes). So GL try out the ideas and get back to us
ps, no ASE dosn't pay me, I just like em

lol at the virus post
Go on the net and search for connection optimization guides and modem optimization guides. The registry settings and all actually do improve my ping and connection. And a good ISP helps too- I use Aplus.net as my ISP and have 6 local numbers to connect to where I live, 4 of which support Microsoft Compression (aids in lowering pings).
Also, use these settings:
cl_allowdownload 0
cl_allowupload 0
cl_downloadingame 0
hpk_maxsize 0
Ingame, open up net_graph 3 and start tweaking the following
cl_updaterate - I use 25
cl_cmdrate - I use 23
rate - I use 4900
Experiment until your choke and loss go down to zero when no one is around you. There's really nothing you can do about choke in a battle, because NS remains a resource hog and will always cause a lot of choke around congested areas.
Right now, I can get about 180 ping standing alone, and about 250 ping in battle; that's pretty playable in my opinion. Better yet, by tweaking my modem and connection, I have not experienced cl_flushentitypacket in two years, except on the rare occasion when my ISP connection gets interrupted.
Look around for a good 56k ISP and ditch AOL or any large providers that don't seem to provide a lot of servers to connect to. Spray your phone jack with canned air to get out the dust, which can cause lag spikes. Pretty soon, you can be in 56k heaven too.
Ok the same thing is happening to me as in System_Destroier's second message, it happens in all half-life mods, even near ones, nearest oens are usually in UK, you seldom find Ireland based servers . I've used gamespy to find local servers, and that CLflush still comes up. I've contacted my ISP, they've said they haven't been doing any major maintenance recently, so i don't think that's it. I've signed up to some new 56k ISP servers, same problem again, so I don't think it's the server. next move will be to reinstall it. have to wait before doing that though cos I haven't got all the mods I want to install handy.
Zhang could you tell me where I can find websites about tweaking your conn and modem? I'll have a look myself too of course .
Oh just another question while I'm talking about your reply Zhang, where can you get lists of all available hl console commands, and what they do, I like messing around with them, see what they do. anyone know where i can find a list, if there is one?
another thing - I haven't got any CLFlush in NS since I installed NS 2.0, but I got it with other mods, maybe I was just lucky .
happy playing everyone

I've got an Intel® 536EP V.92 Modem, if that's any help?
