<div class="IPBDescription">What do I need!</div> Hello people,

We (me and my Clan -]CAF[- ) would like to host our own online radio channel... like NSRadio etc.

But I have no idea what we need for that... How do I do all that? What does it cost?

Thank you for any advice and help on our plan.

Whoever has experience and knowledge about that... help us a lil please...

Thx

A good place to start would be

    <a href='http://www.shoutcast.com' target='_blank'>www.shoutcast.com</a>
You download a server program and then you download a DSP plugin which ties into winamp and u broadcast ur radio thru that

Cant register a radio channel on GamesNET anymore and if you do they ban you from it and gline you for not following the AUP. Since my Friend is an IRC op <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

You need to download the Shoutcast server and DJ files.

You're going to need a server with a lot of bandwidth if you expect to have a lot of listeners. A station with around 40-50 CONSTANT listeners will run you about 1300 GB of bandwidth per month.

You also need lots of music, and most likely an IRC room. GamesNET no longer provides them, so you'll have to look elsewhere.

Of course, you could just listen to us on nsradio. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

Your amount of users depends on ur bandwidth and bit rate, for example if you have a 256k ADSL upload you can get around 10 users on a 24kbps stream

If you want people to actually listen, you're going to need at least a 56k stream - below that sounds awful. At nsRadio we use a 96k most of the time.

First off.... thank you for the support and advise!!!

Well we have loads of music...

Since I wanted to provide a live DJ performance every once in a while...we´re set!

We dont expect lots of listeners on it... I have a 256k upload...so that´s a good thing right?

We got an IRC Channel too...

But still... does it cost money? Do I have to get a licence to play music online?

Studio equipment is no big deal... we got all that...

And yeah... NSRadio kicks butt! Great show... even though I hoped you guys actually went through the trouble of getting the REAL [CHAMPION] Denny on the show... that would have been a laugh!!!

But the bust was hilarious too... I was rolling... the whole show is funny as hell!!! And I stood up all night to hear that shish... I live in europe and in CET the show started at 3am <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif'><!--endemo-->

Okay folks... as soon as we get that Radio thing going ya´ll can apply for DJ slots!!!

CAF Radio will ripp it all (except famous NSRadio of course <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo--> ) We´ll promote NSRadio on our stream for sure...

Just give us some time to grow...

    Toodles!

    hey m8

256k upload will get ya 10 users at 24kbps as i said

You can download the program for free, but as for rights, i don't understand will prob ever understand the rules of that. Although i think u'd prob need a proper license, but I doubt even NSRadio has one

D´oh! Okay... so I need way more bandwidth... 50x96=4800 What the ****? Is there a connection with that amount of UPLOAD bandwidth? If yes I havent heard of it yet...

About the license for playing music... yeah I thaught so that NSRadio doesnt have one either... So I´ll keep broadcasting till the cops knock at my door <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

Now Im really worried about the bandwidth though... How can I fix that??? By now I can get 2.6 listeners at 96k... <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Cheers
