Memory Leak

Used to run fine...
NS ran fine for the past year or so. After I got a video card upgrade (TI 4200 AGP 8x), NS just started running really crappy, FPS wise. With netgraph, I'd get like 15-20 FPS 5 minutes into the game. This never happend on a my old video card (Geforce 2). I know for a fact that its not my video card or computer, because it ran fine before. Everything else runs fine, I have a higher FPS in UT2003 than in NS. I think it starts out fine when a new round starts, but after 5 minutes, it runs really crappy. Any suggestions?

Spec
1.8 Ghz P4 Compaq
TI 4200 Geforce 4 AGP 8x
512 RAM

P.S. Its not something running in the backround like WinAMP or something.

I think it is your vid card.

First do a fresh install of all the drivers.

Older cards like a geforce 2 or My rage 128 32mb pro are actaully optimized for older games. With ns, i can have 20 turrets a phase-gate, all in-veiw on ns_bast and i would get 30fps. Normally (walkin around in base) i get 60fps.

I'm pretty sure that its not the drivers, I updated them like a week ago. If it was my video card, why is this problem in NS only? All the other high FPS games doesn't get affected. Going to reinstall NS and see if that helps.

Obviously reinstalling it helped, the lag is pretty much gone now. One more question, how do you turn off those annoying messages/hints that appear? Like "The armorery gives you ammo!" and crap like that.

I have same ram/video card. Your cpu is 500Mhz faster. I get 99fps. Update your drivers, update sound drivers, install any windows updates. reinstall HL/NS. and run it in 16bpp. This should help. Also, run defrag. and chkdsk /f

Ok, everything runs fine now but a new problem appeared. About 5-10 minutes into a game, my FPS slows down to like 10 from 80 or so, and then everything freezes for 1 second. Then it goes back to normal, but repeats the process every 20 seconds after it first starts happening. This occurs in all games for some reason, and the problem started yesterday. I defragmented and changed my moniter refresh rate to 75, and the problem started after I reinstalled NS. I changed everything back to what it was before, and it still does this little pause thing. I've got all the latest drivers, checked to see if it was anything inside my comp which nothing was wrong, and it still does this. What the freak is wrong?

I ran 3dMark2001's benchmark program and found out that it doesn't actually freeze, the frame rate just drops down to 1-2 during the freeze point. I also reinstalled my video card drivers, in case it went bad or something, but it still does the freeze/low FPS thing every 30 seconds after the 5-10 minute period.

Its still happening.... I don't know whats wrong. Its frustrating when it happens at a critical moment, and I end up being dead after. The previouse weapon key isn't working also, it used to work before I reinstalled NS. Instead of showing a weapon hud at the top, it just fast switches, which is really annoying and reminds me of "Switch to Last Weapon".

Heres my DxDiag info, maybe it would help someone determine the problem.

    /me shakes head

for general purpose, pls use the edit button mate (don't bother with bumps if we don't respond we either just havn;t gotten to you or don't know a solution)

    ooook(disc world any one?)ay:
    1) bind x invnext or invprevious, dont remember wich is broken (basicaly the front end wont do thisd you have to)
    2) you ran the stress test thingy and it happened there also?
HAve you tried any other games?

to me this honestly sounds like hardware bugs, the 3 solutions to try for this are:
    1) Reseat the card (simply pull it out of the MoBo and all connecters out of it and then put it all back to gether)
    2) Flash Firmware (check the comps webbie to see if they have a firmware upgrade)
    3) Complain to the comp and get a new one.

Note, I am not saying this is necesarily what is wrong it simply sounds like it to me (happens in multiple environments, drivers uptodate etc)
