Any Uk Clans Looking For Servers?

Im thinking of getting my own server and then thought of sharing the price. So i looked into getting a super server... a 64 player server for #145 a month. Thats 4x 16 player servers (they are usually #55 a month).

So if I can get a few clans interested the price for a 16 player server will be #37 a month instead of #55. Thats on a three month contract. If we do a 6 month contract its #29 a month, and a 12 month contract is #26 a month.

the server itself is an Intel P4 2,4 GHZ server, with 512 MBs of ram, 40 GB of hard disk space on the same connection all other servers are being hosted on (100 mbit).

Anyone interested?

Running 4 ns servers on a single cpu under 1.04 just is not realistic. Even with 2.0 I'm not sure you'll get very good performance on a single 2.4, and 512mb of is way too little.

You should also check with the server provider how much transfer or what contention that line is under. Most have a limit, you say it's the same as all the other servers? How many is that? One ISP we looked at was very well priced until you saw in the small print they only supplied 50gb of data trnsfer and it was £5/gb after that. Depending on the popularity of your servers you could use 400-800gb/month.

Finally you'll need to check the geographic location of the server because this will effect pings.

Thanks for the comments, I will look into that. BTW who hosts your server?

Warservers, they gave us an excellent price and a great server. They're a little overworked but real NS enthusiasts.
If warservers had not come to our rescue we would have gone to http://dedipower.com. They were more expensive though and are not games server specialists.

I am after a server for my clan - UK based.

I am willing to share the price also is this server linux or windows based?

But you will find a 2.4 Ghz server can handle NS, you have to worry about your bandwidth

our dual 2.4 with 512mb ram running XP Pro with 14 players on tanith - towards the end of the game (HA & HMG's are out...) is running at 20-30% cpu use with hlds taking 105mb.

The server has 20 slots and can handle it easily, but this guy is talking about 4x16 player servers.
So I guess a dual 2.4 will be running at capacity, you'll see performace degridation and with 512mb of ram you'll run out. (xp uses 200mb for itself). He was also considering a single processor system.

Lets wait for 2.0 though because Monse has promised miracles.

oh and re-reading my last post I said warservers were overworked - by this I mean the people running it - not the hardware you rent !

If you wait until a couple weeks into NS 2.0 im sure the market will be more competitive, but like the post above i'd recommend warservers, their connection and hardware is unmatched.

well 1 cpu system would have to be 1x20-24 dedicated with at least 512mb ram.

if you want 2 servers 1 daul processor with at least 1024mb ram, with 1 server on each cpu.

take into account bandwidth used and operating system, linux = less RAM, windows = more
