Art Competition?

Would anybody be interested in having some sort of drawing competition? I thought a pixel art competition could be quite good (seen asthough everybody has the tools.) I've only ever attempted pixel art once or twice, as far as I can remember.

It would be welcome to anybody, first timers, pros etc... It doesn't matter how skilled you are, aslong as you make an effort. If anybody is interested there would need to be a judge of some sort and a deadline for everybody to post their art by.

Maybe 1st, 2nd and 3rd places can have a special avatar message, like "1st in pixel comp," if we ask Coil very very nicely <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

So, post here if you're interested and if there's enough interest we can figure some rules out and things, then make an official post.

    I don't think many people would slave over Photoshop to get '1st place pixel art' put underneath their name. What you should do is fine someone, probably a member of the NS development team, ask them to make up some sorta prize, and hold an art competition. I have no clue what kinda present someone on the Natural Selection forums would want, do you?

    Course you could expand on the entries by making three winners. One for modeling, one for artwork, and one for fan fiction. Still though, you have to sort out a decent reward for one guy, or girl, before you take a step further.

    I would enter, I mean I'd lose, but I would enter.

    It's only a little bit of fun for the community, it doesn't matter what you win. Plus I think it would be cheeky to ask the dev team for anything else. It would be really nice for some dev team members, Fam, Coil etc to get involved too, if they're not busy.

    It doesn't really need a prize though - winning should be enough. It sounds like a great idea, and would be super-cool if the theme/style changed every time we did it. Pixel art first, then maybe vectors, or hand-drawing things, or whathaveyou.

    lol then its not a competition if you don't win something, lol.
    Pixel art is so far out of the normal persons capabilities, some art would do fine instead of pixel art

    I don't see the point in saying this, it's like a very naive view of digital art - saying that because there is a better person out there (which these three surely are very skilled) there's no point in bothering. This certainly isn't the case, I know I'm not great at photoshoppery or photography for that matter, but it doesn't stop me from having a go, and really enjoying myself while I'm at it.
    Nothing is ever about how good the best person is at it - it's all about doing it to enjoy it, and to exceed your own personal best.

    Maybe we can have a judging system based on effort and such, so, aslong as the people who aren't good try hard, they can get top marks in a few categories.

    Well, although I've never tried my hands on Pixel Art, some sort of Contest would definately be great.

    I believe that we really don't need any prizes, a simple "1st in Pixel Comp" is absolutely enough. This contest shouldn't be about big prizes, but about fun for the people participating.

    If you're interested could you definately say you want to be a part of the competition please? Maybe say something like, "Yes, sign me up" at the bottom of your post so I can easily see and update the list of names.

    Deadline might be after September 1st (decided upon later), but there's nothing stopping you submitting it earlier than this. Just hang around until I make an official post with the rules, dates etc and then you can post your pic in there.
