4-person Surrendering...

<div class="IPBDescription">is becoming EXTREMELY annoying</div> As I'm sure some of you have noticed, it seems that a lot of 2.0 servers now allow people to unbalance the teams by 2 people instead of just 1 when they're joining. This means you could join Aliens if they have 7 people and marines have 6, for example. I'm not sure if this is the default setting now or what, but it creates a big problem with the current surrender code...

Basically what often seems to be happening in big games is that one team or another frequently gets the 2 extra people, just because more people wanted to play there by some chance. Note that often even-numbered servers are full and the teams are unbalanced in this way, never to be corrected... Anyway, the real problem is that sometimes 2 people from the smaller team just quit for whatever reason, either just a coincidence or because they don't want to play on a small team. I've actually lost count of the number of games that have ended in a couple minutes before any one side is winning, because the teams started unbalanced and the smaller team unintentionally surrendered the win.

This is seriously aggrivating. I've had this happen to 2-3 games in a row before, all within the first 10 minutes or so of the game. I don't really know what causes people to do this but something really needs to be done to address the "surrender" option and make it depend a little more on an actual team consensus...

<span style='color:white'>[edit]</span>Personally I think there should be an option to vote for a surrender, similar to voting to eject the comm. Make it a menu option that, when chosen, suicides you and turns your screen black. If you choose it again your surrender vote is withdrawn and you're put back into the game. If a certain percentage of the team(say, half) is surrendering at any given time, the other team wins just as it happens now.<span style='color:white'>[/edit]</span>

I hate that too! Theres always a lot of confusing in the Ready Room afterwards: "why did we win?" "What happened!" or "I was just about to give out HMG's"

I to find it anoying, but you can't force people to stay on the server

Noticed this too. I'm all for returning it to a maximum unbalance of 1, 3 vs. 5 games are quite lopsided.

A few times we've been winning as the smaller team, then one person disconnects and we lose. It makes sense for a concede condition when its a 6v6, but when its a 12 v 12 a difference of 4 isn't nearly as significant.

Server ops can change the concede value, we set it high, so that if players leave, new players can join and fill the gaps - we get so many connection attempts when full during busy periods you could swap your whole team in a matter of minutes.

The team balance is also now server op settable and defaults at 2. Your right that this doesn't work well and I'm just about to change it back to 1. Good show.

I had a game that ended up like this today.. but it was like this.
Alien's had all three-hive's and six resource-nozzle's and the marine's had zero.
Out of the clear blue, while a pack of Gorge's were bilebombing the marine base while I umbra'd them.
The marine's instantly won because the teams were stacked over two in the beginning, and two people left on our team.

Best idea is a vote. It could probably be easily done as a server side script, kinda like adminmod's vote kick/map. I would be all for putting this into NS.

people talking about unbinding f4 don't get what he's saying, this happend about 4 times in a row last night. due to the 2 person imbalance its far to easy in a large game 10vs10 on up for a couple pubbers on one side to quit, have to sleep, take out garbage, take a long dumb whatever, thus the game ends when your putting up your first chambers, or went kiling to get a early second hive then as its building games over. not due to f4 not cause either team wanted to stop due to imbalance teams, as in a couple minutes teams would be full again.

Had two games end, abruptly, because two people on one team refused to play with an imbalance of 2. So they F4'd. Second game started, down two, F4'd. I left the server at that point.

The problem isnt with f4ing. People on pubs in a long large game just quit sometimes. I think the threshold for ending the game should be a percentage difference rather than a fixed number. It would make it a lot easier for server operators to set a number that would scale well with different numbers of people on the server.

Its hugely unsatisfying to play for an hour or more, and to then have the game end suddenly due to a temporary team imbalance as people leave and join.

Autoconcede should just be taken out. In 2.0 it isn't that big of a problem since people can now go to the ready room and switch teams without rejoining the server. Also maybe a built in auto team balance feature in the future?

I think it makes sense to have it in to end games that are obviously over, to prevent spawn camping for fun/other lamery, but one team should have to be half of the other team size (when there are more than 3 people) in order for it to kick in.
