2.0 Too Slow?

Lots of people have been complaining 2.0 is slower than 1.04. Well maybe in the sense that you cant have a jetpack rush, but this picture is pretty interesting (cut up for the sake of size)

I would have to agree that end of game stalemates are ridiclous. I've played very few games under 40 minutes in length, but I think its just the initial phases of 2.0

odds on what people think are no win situations have viable advantage gaining strats ;/

I'd say the pace of the game at the beginning is much faster, but stalemates are very common. I'm hoping that as player's experience with the game grows these will become rarer as we will learn what to do against turret farms. Nothing we can do now but experiment and try to figure out what to do.

It's not so much experience as getting the 3 or 4 rambo aliens on your team to cooperate with you on bilebomb runs, or, inversely, get your stupid heavies to actually move together, and keep their jetpack support attached.

aliens with one hive = siege

Marines with only startbase left = onos, xenoside and eventually when they can't afford HA anymore, gas chamber

If marines execute a 2 hive lock down and only cap the two rts at those hives, aliens will see a quick death against the turret farms, and without that second hive for Bile, there's not much to do against 8+ turrets.

If they did a 2 hive lock down then the aliens were playing crapily. 1 Hive lockdowns are common, 2 hives aren't. Just stop them from reaching a 2nd hive.

Its because aliens go sensory and marines manage to lock down a hive or relocate there. If aliens go movement/defense games usually take 10-15 min at most.

Actually, if just a few people from the team go to the hives, and secure them with o's and sensories early on, you can keep marines out of them. So far, the marines like teching up with rts much more than hive lockdowns.

Yay for hambone, sense first isn't fun anymore, stop doing it. movements on first hive with celerity skulks, and move assissted gorge rushes are the new in thing <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

It's definately at least partly start up thing, but pub players are turning out to be really feckin slow to learn in some cases, hell I still get gorges trying to kill me myself with bile bomb fairly often. The few games aliens or marines have tried a few new tactics (mainly aliens) the games have gone alot faster... speaking of which, still not much variation in marines, just HA up and TF everywhere you can... not many using electrify or faster moving tactics yet I wanna know how good they really are

It will take some weeks for everyone to learan how to guard and use gorge artillery, Lerks primal scream and umbra, Marines not behaving like in CS and fall back for a while when its time too, onoses using other attacks than devour.

Id suggest alternative game endings, like resource mayority `winning after 1 hour or so.
Like every resnode you have more than the other team steals "victory points" from the other side, when one team has all the points of the other team they lost, too.

I think Hambone hit the problem on the nose. Everyone, on a lot of servers, LOVE sensory. On the server I play on alot, the fight to get Def/Mov first is harder than the fight against the marines. Sensory offers no, non-counterable, offensive ability. If you are not aggressive or offensive, you arnt going to be throwing the other team off of thier game plan, which means they are free to do whatever they want - like locking down two hives and *boom* its stalemate time.

I beg to differ. When a shotty rush heads your way the difference between having SC and not can be fatal. SC are still a viable choice, don't say "oGM tehy r used to muCh donw wit SC" try using them near a busy marine area, you can easily get the jump on a pack of marines.

Stalemates are caused by a lack of skills, not a problem with the game. If the marines are holed up in their base, a couple onos, a fade, lerk and gorge can route them out like it's nothing. Umbra + healing spray + acid rocket + onos = death. I've yet to see the aliens cause any stalemates, since at one hive they're no match for a squad of HA/HMG with LMG/Shotgun support.

New sensory is just as viable as the rest.
A failure to utilize it is not the game's fault.
    End of discussion.

Sentrysteve, what do you mean by sens giving no offensive ability? When we get sens I always get SoF, it's a friggin wallhack, making me know exactly when to hit an outpost and when to retreat, it works wonders, maybe you should try it instead of only go cloak or even worse pheremones...

EXACTLY. Just wait a few weeks until all the noobs have left and went back to CS and people actually learn to play the game.

There're too many threads on just this topic as is.
