Hotkey Facility For Obs

<div class="IPBDescription">It's rellay needed.</div> Having commed my first 20+ games now i find one element a constant source of annoyance:

<b>Having to select an obs to scan from.</b>

Maybe you could pool the energy from all the obs, or just make a function which could select a random obs and make the scan from that. It would really reduce the workload of the 2.0 commander, which I find has gone up by quite a bit since 1.04.

[EDIT].
CRAP. sry, wrong forum.

    cant you just set the obs to be a group by holding shift+group number?

    Select your OBS and push ctrl+5 ....

    If you have more then do like squad 345 are your 3 obs. Most comms never used 5 squads for marines.

    You can bind it to an active squad without anything bad happening to them. You'll just also select the observatory when you select that squad. And the proper command is "crouch + 1" (assign to squad one.)

    That's a pretty freakin good idea in fact! Does it autosnap to the players or the obs?

    I was gonna start a topic just like this.

    First, I love the use of forwad obs. I feel it adds a lot of depth and strategy to the game. However, the hotkeying different obs is very counter intuitive compared to the old method. Having the scanner sweep attached to the equipment menu was very simple and useful. I think Koenig's suggestion is right on the money. Keep the need for multiple obs, and keep the energy cost. However, move the command to the main menu so it can be selected without de-selecting your soldiers.

    Am I in the minority here? Do most people like the new scan control system? Or would you rather it be changed back?

    I suggest the first obs for Squad 3.

    Observatories still need a hotkey, automatization.
    I dont care from what obs my scanner sweep comes.

    Change it back, change it back <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I find the new commander interface a bit buggy, but I seem to have worked out most of the problems Im having.

    1) scanning is a pain in the.... - back on menu would be better
    2) right clicking to clear your selection is a more natural habit then using that back key...new comms wont have that issue
    3) sometimes cant click buildings. click in minimap and its fixed. appears click and drag may cause the mini map selection to activate

    sorry if any of that is confusing, 4 am local atm

    Maybe, can you bind a key to cycle through your obs? Selecting, hotkeying and then finding an obs with energy is a pain in the ****. If I could just say, hit H to select an active obs, then hit H to select the next one, etc. That'd be great, and a lot easier than hotkeying specific ones.

    I think it would be cool if they added a little electronic warfare box to the com screen. Make it simple, a little box that list your total amounts of active observitories and either a single bar for pooled energy or bars for each one. Under that would be your scanner and DB buttons.
    Giving the OB its own little spot would be keeping with its new found importance in ns2 and it would make it easier to quickly ping needed map areas.

    That's a good idea too. I'd really like to get some more opinions on this. If the majority of the NS community sees no problem with the current setup, I'll shut up and learn to use it. But it seems to me this is the only spot 2.0 is inferior to the 1.0x version.

    I would just like to add that I can never get "select all" to select all the marines, and when I press space to jump to an alert, it only stays there for .2 seconds (then it goes back to where I was).

    Ditto that meat.

    Thought I'd bump this back up... it's rather annoying. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Yeah Meat, I've got the same problem (select all button works fine), but when I hit space to go to an alert 70% of the time it jumps straight back to where I was.

    for me it goes to a place where i either
    A) have no buildings or
    B) have no mariens anywhere close

    about 40%

    This was a big problem when i was performing a 2 headed seige boxin opperation...
