Constillation Question

<div class="IPBDescription">NOOO, its not the icons..</div> Had this idea the other day and thought i would post it. Currently on servers admin get reserved slots, fair enough they should. But what if admins could get reserved slots alongside constillation members. So on an 20 player server have 3 admin slots and 2 constillation slots. This would releave my flustration on not been able to play on some servers coz there allways full. Anyway, i dont know if this could be programmed, how it would work or anything coz im not an uber |337 coder, but somebody out ther is. This would also be a good idea because it would help flayra get more people to sign up to the constillation to get reserved slots.

Can this be done??
Would anyone do it?

Should be possible. Just need to figure out how to read in the downloaded list of constellation members. Sounds like the kind of thing Voogru and Them love to do, but they're probably too busy playing NS <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'>

I love the idea. I get very fustrated when I cannot find a game to join due to RS. But I eventually find one or two. I would very much like to see this.

Well I figured out how to get the list of wonids. Problem is that there is 296 constellation members. Not sure how amx would handle that many users? Plus it would require a manual update every so often as I assume there is no way to download a web page from within an amx plugin. I might have a stab at it anyway.

That would be good, i try to get into your sever quite alot. Unfortunatly i never seem to be able to apart from late at night, ahh well ill have to see what you come up with.

The majority of servers are bought by groups of people, such as clans.
I dont think clans would be happy if someone who had not helped to pay for the server got a reserved slot for free. (I mean, i know you paied for constellation - but i paid for the server... for example)...
And if i dont want you to have the reserved slot, the choice should be mine.

Im not exactly worried though, as constellation members would never get this sort of privilage. Even if they wanted to implement it, it would take far too much time.

First point is that in effect we payed for the game your running on your server, without funding it would be unlikly that the game would have reached the 2.0 stage (flay needs to eat you know.) Also as cheesy said before he would install it on YO server, which as it happens is a clan server so there is some market for it anyway. Flay did say there could be other advantages to constillation membership in the future, couldnt this be one of them. I dont understand though what you mean when you say

To much time for what:
-to develop... Dont think so there is allready a lookup for who is a member and give them an icon, couldn't it just be a system of who is a member give them a slot.
-to impliment... The list of people is stored at ns.org so wouldn't it be a case of changing a server variable.

Using this system i am not trying to attack your admin power, it would be the admins choice in the first place to eneable the system and for howmany slots.

There's loads of people trying to pay us to get a reserve slot, but we won't accept because we're not offering a service. If we accept money from people not in the clan they will expect a service and expect admin powers etc.

This appears to be a perfect solution, if you want a reserve slot that bad then pay Flayra some money and we'll let you in ahead of the other people. Our server gets better players. The players don't have to retry for half an hour to get in, and Flayra can go out and buy some food. I think the best solution would be a metamod plugin that can see the list the server downloads and somehow stops amx/adminmod/clanmod etc. from dropping the player. That way it wouldn't need a text file being constantly updated manually.

Tell you what though...Empire Earth is another game Flayra did some work on. He didn't do all the work, but he did some of the more important aspects, and it seems like a really good game. Don't know if Flayra gets any money if it sells, but it's a good game.

Good Idea, I have yet to join the constellation program, but until I do I would gladly let those who have in before me. Good idea, but I think that Flayra would be putting major control on the NS game if this was done. So for some of the smaller servers, which rely on their private slots (donators), they might not ever have the ability to even provide such.

I think this would best be implemented as a 3rd party server tool. Like a metamod plugin that way its fully up to the admins if they want to run it and how many slots to reserve for it.

Yes, and I think a lot of server admins might support it. However, I think the benefits of having a private slot b/c of Constellation might draw more donators to servers, with this plugin. I think it is playing favorites, way too much.

You want an icon? Donate for constellation.
Need that private slot? Donate to keep individual servers up.

2. Not many servers want to hand out slots at all, as in cheesys case.

This mod i would want to be admin controlled of course, so it could be turned off. But i would like the chance to join my favorite servers easilly, and so i suspect would many other people. Such as the YO server, the BY servers and nano. And admins its not like giving up 1 slot is the same as dissconectiong your server from the internet, common 1 or 2 slots. And i suppose it would only be fair if devs and PT could use this system aswell.

I don't think there is any point me doing it. If I did it as an AMX plugin I'd have to update the wonid list manually all the time, nobody else would be bothered to use the plugin due to this and it being specific for AMX.

It really needs to be done in metamod and I don't have the skills to do that.

This would be neat too do, but the problem with doing it is that there is no way to detect if they are a const (or any special ns member) until they have auctually came into the game.

Unless some major hacking is done into figuring out how NS is recieving the player's wonids, this isnt really possible :/ All I know about it is that it uses port 80 and opens up a password protected website. (Which I dont know the password so its rather useless).

The username/password is encoded in base64 and is easily obtained by using one of the many programs on the interent to decode it. Anway I'm sure Flayra wouldn't mind letting us use it for this legitamite purpose.

OK... That last bit really got beyond me. Anyway, i wonder if it is any use contacting flayra about it and see what he says...
