defeating sens first as comm
Defeating sens first as comm is easy.
Doing this while keeping your team in a good mood is almost impossible!
Well, they just rambo away to die by the next cloaked skulk nearby.

"commander i want an mp5" (wrong game dude)
"drop another welder, i lost the last one around the corner" (great)
"medpack" (just to walk into a cloaked skulk)
"gimme a hmg" (gimme some less ramboing and more res securing)
"medpack" (in rine spawn with 90 health)
"why dont we have any upgrades" (with only 2 res cus all rambos die in cloak traps)
"medpack" (just to die the next second)
"commander gimme HA" (nope sensories are better and youll just get eaten by cloaked onos)
"eject the sucking noob comm" (have fun loosing like everytime)

And then a team of 8 full upgraded marines with shootguns and welders and regular scanner sweeps cant get from rine spawn to nearby doubleres just because of one SC thez are unable to kill.

Needless to say that marines ALWAYS complain ank eject the hell out of you no matter if you`re better than the last 5 commanders that did it worse against cloaking, not doing scanner sweeps a single time.

Oh and one of 5 games you get a good rine team. They wait at resnodes till its secured. They slowly push forward, they listen, make no complaints, just good suggestions. And what do i get for that? An early F4ing alien Team sucking in sens first.

hopefully in 2 weeks all CS players get bored of NS again.

Beating cloaking is a simple as using the observatory they way they were meant to.
1. Build multiple observatories around the map.
2. Use scanner sweep as your marine team advances.

So move up using scanner sweep, get near the hive, drop a tf, phase, and a obs. Repeat.

Yeah not many comms use obs the way they're meant to be used now. Rememeber an ob uncloaks ANY nearby aliens! Put this to your advantage all you comms!

...and i swear if i'm in one more rambo team....

I love the silly Rambo kids.

Have fun dying, suckers!

coms are always putting the obs at the back of the base where half its detection radius is castrated against a wall.

What are the properties of the observatory exactly? Does it reveal cloaked aliens and structures? And how far is the range? Ive tried it out (by myself, in LAN mode, with cheats) and it only seem to reveal structures to the comm in the form of MT circles.

It decloaks... Build a bunch of sens in the base, run in as a skulk and watch yourself decloak. Remember the funky flashing cloak in 1.04? Obs.

That said, I love my rambos... Occasionally they, in their random running abouts, manage to find a hole in the enemy defenses and help me set up a siege. Then again, I guess it's a masochistic relationship since they more often just feed res to the aliens, making oni come faster.

Thats the point. I love complaining rambos just feeding the enemy.

Buildings are only shown as MT circles (I hope thats a bug and gets fixed cause it suckz.)

Does anyone know what the range of obs decloaking is?

I find that sense is not that hard to counter as long as you use your head.

1) Scanner Sweep Areas that you are entering for the first time most of the time aliens will just leave 1 sense somewhere in the room as soon as your marines see it destroy it.

2) Build Multiple Obs. They aren't that expensive and are small enough to be hidden in a dark corner or tucked behind an elec building.

The sense uprades are less advantagious to the aliens in later game so one of the most important things to do when aliens get sense first is stop the 3rd or even 2nd hive from going up.

Let me get this right.
Your idea to counter 10res sens chambers all around the map is to built 25res obs?
• ChemChem Join Date: 2002-11-01 Member: 2555Members, Reinforced - Shadow
20 res obs and yes unless of course you want your marines to be mauled.
• Dr_AwkwardDr_Awkward Join Date: 2002-11-20 Member: 9395Members
10 res sensory chambers, plus as many 2 res cloaking upgrades as you can shake a stick at.
• FieariFieari Join Date: 2002-10-22 Member: 1566Members, Constellation
Build 20 res obs wherever you are trying to hold with turrets. Scanner sweep otherwise. Make SURE you scanner sweep.

As a grunt, if you've loaded up with ammo, someone in your squad (you ARE moving in groups, RIGHT???) should spray down hallways, trying to make any cloaked things appear for a moment. This can also help, but only one guy should do this, because it wastes a LOT of ammo.
• El_Pollo_LocoEl_Pollo_Loco Join Date: 2003-06-11 Member: 17255Members
You Don't need an Obs everywhere just in places that are important to you otherwise make sure you have your Obs binded to a key so you can scan for your troops so they arn't ambushed going into a room.

aaaah its GREAT in the command chair for a heap of newbies on a newbie friendly server:
The first comm was just great good and newbie friendly.
He needed to leave after we hardly took over 3/4 of the map amd secured it well against Sens and movement. We still had some hard fights for every resnode.
We kept advancing. they did strong stalemates, well not that stong, but its a newbie friendly server, no more to say.
I had ONE BIG PROBLEM.
half of the team was ramboing though i always gave clear directions and a waypoint for the whole team.
one guy was spamming the mic giving orders, WRONG STUPID SUICIDE RUSHIING ORDERS while we gonna loose 2 resnodes and such.
He also kept begging for **** while we loose important outposts without defense. He ordered my team anywere but not were it needs to be. He keps asking for orders though he always had clear orders he just ignored.
we had all resources but the 2 hives.
During the game we couldnt make it against a few oni and lerk with full upgrades and 400 res.
And the guy kept spamming its my fault, of course.
I gave everything everywere i got a team of 3 ppl.
ppl asking for ammo 3 steps next to a 4th armory I placed, begging for a welder while there are 5 welders in the spawn and more pointless ****.
Noone phases anywere when anything is under attack by bilebombs.
it was 12 vs 12, but i never got a team of 5 ppl together SCREAMING because this guy did not shaddap.
I told my team to ignore him many times. They just vanished in onos mouths or anywere. I supported that guys small suicide runs without chance, because, you got it, its a newbie friendly server.
Not that we couldnt use jetpacks, we killed tons of oni with jetpacks, one after another. We just could not get a coordinated finishing attack because noone followed waypoints.
Then i saw my cc under attack by a little skulk. Well i had "under attack messages" all the time because of no freaking defense and everyone waddling around like a gorge playing first time.
I tried to take care of all of them. but every waypoint was simply ignored.
But its a newbie friendy server. so i coninued for like 2 or 3 hours triing to secure bases with half the team just beeing ignorant. the other half doing what that guy tolds them, rarely foollowing waypoints to build stuff.
So he managed to chomp down the cc slowly. while we had a base full of stuff, and ppl asking for it just to die somewere alone. I klicked 2nd cc, got it on its place, but the cc died too fast.
imagine what THAT guy was screaming and flaming then, of course it was all my vauls, heh.

ive seen simular, i went comm. team did not do really well, they ejected and flamed me, the other comm tried hard but just did it worse.
the team wants me back in the cc. I only tried once again next match, slightly better but still flamed.

After a 3 hour game with absolute dominance 400 res all the time, small attacks everywere, half team ramboing, other half complaining and not following orders, flaming and making useless requests i lost the command chair just to hear that its all my fault again.
But i wont surrender and join the next cc, to fight against Sensory chambers with a team of CS rambos!
(btw ive seen worse happen in other games with other comms)

I always do the spraying in a hall strategy, it helps me greatly.

The very first game I commed in 2.0 was against sensory first aliens. It was tough for me to get my head around the foreign situation (skulks appearing from nowhere and scarfing my marines), but we carried the day magnificently. Forward observatories, scanner sweeps, and small turret farms at various key locations (every res node was either turreted and obsed or electrified, and each of the two hives we secured had a phase and an armory).

Eventually it came down to a squad of fully upgraded HAs marching on one-hive one-res-node aliens under a waterfall of med/ammo spam, with enough res left over that I could've turreted the entire map if I'd been feeling sadistic.

It all came down to those scanner sweeps, though - it effectively neuters the sensory upgrades if done properly, leaving your marines with uncarapaced unceleritied skulks to gun down. To date I have not been in ONE game as an alien where the comm used scanner sweeps effectively, so it must be something most people are still figuring out.

This is a terrible comparison.

Please realize that 20 res out of a shared pool is much less than 10 res out of an single res pool.

Thank you, that is all.

Heh. I did this once, just sprayed some lead around, less than half a clip. We knew they had SC, and I wanted to make sure we were clear before we built a res node. I got yelled at. "Stop shooting, gawd, what are you doing?" Maybe some people need more comfortable chairs or something.

Can we take it easy on the CS players please. I'm a hardcore CS player but I've been following orders since day one for NS 1.0 . Give them time. NS is a completely new concept of game. Human evolution is not ready for NS. In order for us to achieve second most played mod we need to try to train these kids.

I have yet to see a comm that dealt effectively with sens.

I keep telling them: "please, give us a scanner sweep before we run into this room" No response.

In one or two key areas, we get smacked by invisible Onos that appear directly in front of us. I tell the comm "Build an obs forward: it will make things much much easier on all of us, and it'll be very much worth the res." Again, no response, and we keep getting ambushed to death non-stop.

Sigh.

One thing that many commanders don't do is hotgroup their observatory. If you hotkey your observatory as group 1 or 5, it's easy as pie to select it and drop a scanner sweep of a new room.

Don't forget to always Check corners and out of the way places that you would normally pass by. Chances are there might be a SC sitting just out of view (pun ) and checking on top of that box, or in that dark corner will save you alot of dead Marines!
