<div class="IPBDescription">please be nice</div> I haven't asked question here for a long time but I guess we're all new again now <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

I have been commander twice since 2.0 was released and have a 50% success rate but there are a couple of things I cant figure out.

1. How can I set a marine to a squad - I was told duck + number. Well d is my duck key and d+1 does nothing.

2. How can you de-select. I had an armoury but changed my mind, right clicked and it went so I dragged my box of marines and plop an armoury apeared. This is the game I lost after doing this three times at the start of the game. (DOH) In 1.04 I used to select a medpack to clear it so at least I would drop something cheap.

I believe they meant ctrl when they meant "duck".

I think there is a bug with adding group when you have set keys Q W ..... N M (not shift or ctrl) for crouching. I had common problem.

That's probably because d is also a commander hotkey.

I'm not sure about the first question, it always works for me, with C as my crouch key. But in response to your second question, to de-select something, just use the 'back' button on the commander interface, in the lower right. It's an arrow pointing to the left.

Yeah. The qwerasdfzxcv commander hotkeys get bound to your keyboard when you jump in.
It no longer reads d as duck at that point.
You could probably bind a different key to duck for settings squads that you don't normally use.

    1. I've also noticed that I have to use the number keys at the top of the keyboard. Not the number-keypad (on right side).

    2. I use the ESC key to deselect. As a regular marine it dumps you out of the game, but in commander it seems to cancel.

That's because of how half-life handles the number pad keys.

The top row of number keys on the normal keyboard are (to my knowledge) 1 2 3... 0
The number pad keys, however are named after the function of the key when num lock is off. eg 1 on the number pad is kp_end and 2 is kp_downarrow.
The 5 key on the number pad is kp_5.

Thanks, the solution was to simply bind duck to Ctrl as well as D.
and both the back arrow and escape work to cancel a building

Squads are often called "hotgroups" by certain games. Warcraft, Command and Conquer, Total Annihilation, Sacrifice and others all have them. You know, when you select a bunch of units and then group them to a number key, usually by holding ctrl and pressing the number? You can then select that group simply by pressing the number. It's an extremely common feature of real time strategy games, and was implemented in NS 2.0.

Change your duck key to CTRL or SHIFT like everyone else =)

QWERASDFZXCV are all rebound when you get in the comm chair, which is why when you get in your "d" key is no longer for duck.
