<div class="IPBDescription">Very Much Laggy. =(</div> well, i know this is a new player section, im kind of new to ns, well im new to nsv2.0 lolz. i was just wondering, if its my MODEM, CONNECTION,LINE OR AREA, that is laggin me. i have dialup and my isp is iprimus, and when i play my pings ussualy about 300, but as soon as i bite or see a marine it goes to 600+ then it goes back down when either i die or they die. is this because ns has bad coding for dialup ? or just because ( all those above things ) .. its impossible to play as alien ( skulking ) or marine when this happens, thats why im always in the comm chair. i cant kill anything at ALL!! when im skulking with 600 ping.
( you cablers are so lucky, i played at this lan center and was gettin 18-25 ping, it was so damn smoooooooof and i was chomping them all up so easyily ) ..

1.7ghz
gffx 5600 128mb ddr
512mb ddr ram.
so i dont think its that, and whats even MOOOORE weirder is that the server that i play on is in perth W.A, and im in perth W.A. its so not fair =(
- Play from a friends/internet cafe.
- Or make the switch from dial-up, to cable. (If possible)
Other then that, hopefully your problems get fixed up.

General lagginess is usually due to the server, and is rarer these days. Ping spikes, or random inconsistencies in your ping, are caused by bad connection. Lag which happens predictably and as a result of something you do (such as bite a marine, or see another player, or whatever) is more likely due to bad settings on your end. Find yourself a Half-Life net tweaking guide, it should help you.
<b>1. Massive turret/chamber farms</b>
Sometimes in games people will go overkill on making offense chambers and turrets, making massive areas of turrets to help defend. Usually this will lag the server because every turret has a constant animation. Which means it has to send data for each animation to you, the client, every single nanosecond it can. Now, when you get turrets on the map up in the high 50s to even 100s it gets laggy. This is also usually the lesser of the two.
<b>2. Memory leak in code.</b>
This was mentioned in here when 2.0 released, stating there was a very small memory leak. It was recommended to all server admins to reboot their servers once every few days or so, to keep things running well. Well, some admins don't and weeks go by. And as more and more the server's RAM is occupied indefinitely thanks to this leak the server slows down.
Right now those are the only two plausible reasons I can cite. I know it's not my connection, I usually ping 20 - 70 to a server and jump in and it shoots to 300 or so. And everyone in the server pings no less than 250 or so.

That's not his problem. He said his ping spikes when he attacks something; that's not the same as general server lag due to too many entities.
someone said get cable ??...well thats kind of hard, not because its not available, but simply because i cant afford it = ( ..
