Hl Exits To Desktop

I've installed NS 2.0 but when i launch a game (host a lan game or try to connect to an internet game) the following happens:

- console start
- WON auth successful
- F:\sierra\HL\... cannot read it's too fast
- game returns to the main menu
- game returns immediately to the desktop

my PC is
Asus A7N8X
512 MB DDR
XP 2000+
Audio on board
Geforce 4 Ti4600 (Chaintech)

Half life and Counter strike work fine.

I have a similar problem. It just loads then crashs to desktop, but only when I have cheating death enabled. But the thing is, I never have and never even looked for or considered cheats

it crashes for me with or without CD enabled... no difference...

Before spending too much time on this, please uninstall and reinstall NS. Reply back if this does not fix your issue.

reinstall doesn't fix the problem...

i get

WON auth successfull
Console dumped to...

then it exits to menu and suddenly to desktop.

hmm, just on a curious note

does HL actualy close? can you imediatly start up a new copy of HL? and could you check in the task manager under Processes?

yes HL close, no trace of it (HL.EXE) in task manager and i can immediately launch half life after crash
