Its coming out soon.
Savage (soon)
And it is damn good - slightly more emphasis on personal tactics, less on overarching strategy.
But tremendous fun - if you were ever a C&C buff <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
Eat Obelisk f00l! Oh Yer?? Keep talking while the treads on my mamm tank squish the gooey **** out of you...
It's pretty fun, but my disc got scratched <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
Thinking about it, it's a lot like playing as aliens...
Battlezone 2 on the other hand, wasnt as crash hot. If you wanna play a good game from '98 then BZ is the way to go <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
Heavy Gear II. First-person mech game, but with an overhead map to give commands and waypoints to your squad. Excellent game.
Dungeon Keeper (already mentioned). Sim City gone evil, and you could posess your recruits. Of course, sacrificing, torturing, imprisonment and starving them to death were more fun (first person part wasn't done that well, lousy graphics and didn't make much difference in fights) <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
Several tank sims have this. iM1A2, M1TP2, Steal Beasts.
Some tactical shooters like Rainbow Six, but in that case the planning tends to come before the action. Recent sequels (Ghost Recon) allow waypoints during the action. Some flightsims (with dynamic campaign) also have a pre-mission planning phase, where you can see the whole war going on, enemy locations, and decide where you will be striking next (while the AI players on your and the enemy side do the same).

Great game, and it had a commander interface for every player. This unfortunately meant it was rarely useful, as it'd be hard to know where to go when everyone on your team could give waypoints. So generally waypoints weren't given. You could also use the system to manually control remote cameras and guns, which was very useful (for example, the AA guns only tracked air targets when the AI controlled them, but under manual control you could waste nearly anything with that rapid fire monster).

On an only semi-related note, the not-true FPS/RTS Urban Assault, by Microsoft, was entertaining if nothing else... Waves of robot helicopters being smashed into each other is freakin' hilarious.

Planetside is one of the best games out there i think. A MMFPS. Basically. There's 3 teams. 10 or so islands. Each have there own look to them. Then there's base's, and Tower's, and what not. Then you hack into bases, and take them over so people can spawn there. You can level up by killing people or hacking bases. You learn to be an eng, and fix stuff. Or learn how to fly plane, or vechiles, or sniper, or be a better hacker(there's other stuff to this). It's really good when you have a joined attack. Like have planes drop bomb's on a base, then have fights take out someguys. Then have ground troops go in, and take it over. I highly highly suggest this game.
P2P is just bad.
I'm getting Savage as soon as it hits the local shelves.

Pay to Play (I think)

I think he means pay to play or P2P
its a free multiplayer online FPS game and its pretty fun. free dload, free to play. WW2 setting, same engine as RTCW but different class (medic, covert op, soldier) system. No aliens, but you can steal enemy uniforms and stuff. check out castlewolfenstein.com and hit the 'enemy territory' heading for more info and files.

I got in the beta of that. Complete crap if you ask me :/ I gave my account away.
stay FAR, FAR away from this game. its horrible. there are tons of weapon imbalances (for example one empire has only 3 good weapons), over 100 known bugs that have been complained about for 4 months, gameplay gets amazingly repetitive after two weeks, and the devs are unbelievably ignorant and clueless as to how to fix problems. the community sucks, too. it's already on its way out (people are leaving in droves, there is only about 30% of the original playerbase from 4 months ago), and its just not worth it.
oh yea, and its $13 a month to play. trust me and dont touch it.
Remember? <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

Oh yes, Urban Assault certainly was entertaining in the beginning. The huge clashes were nice. But when it's that way mission after mission, it gets old quick. The first-person mode didn't add that much to the game, so I prefer a game of Total Annihilation (against the slightly demented CPU player) instead when I want to see huge armies being turned into smoking rubble at an appalling rate. Besides, TA offers more strategy, looks a lot better, and has the Kroggie <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
(My all time favourite game... they don't make them like that anymore... sniff...)
And now, for yet another RTS/FPS hybrid: Hostile Waters, Antaeus Rising.
Only played the demo, but it looks very polished.
I don't think it is. Haven't played it myself yet, but I've been looking around on that site. Basically, it used to be pay for play, owned by Microsoft. MS then dropped support and servers for the game, but instead of letting the whole thing die completely some players made their own servers. The beta is not for the game itself but for a new anti-cheat login system to be used on those player-owned servers.
