New School Year.....

<div class="IPBDescription">too.... stressed.... help.... me....</div> I'm on my junior year at this new school, and I am taking the IB Diploma (not sure if u guys know what it is). The lessons began on Tuesday (05/08), and during my first week, I already had 2 quizes, and 19 homeworks!! And they all are DEAD DIFFICULT!!!! I mean, I'v been sleeping at 11:30pm, midnight!!! I used to sleep at 9:00pm, when I was during school time!!!! My history teacher gave me 45pgs to read for Monday and to take notes on it! I'm not used to it! I know the IB is a really tough course, almost as much work as college, but even though.....

I need help!!! Someone, plz, help me to overcome this stressful period. Just don't tell me to drink cofee cause I'm already doing this.

I took a bunch of AP classes myself, and honestly, its a bad call. The classes themselves are devoid of any real teaching - just information you can use to pass the test to get credit at the end. I spent a year in AP European History and I learned absolutely nothing that I didn't know before - or the information supplied was totally wrong (example, book and teacher said that first subs were used in WWI, when in fact they had been used LONG before in the civil war and one of my "war buddies" said there were even a few attempts during the civil war). Take the easy route and get a better grade, colleges are brighter eyed to a 4.0 average with easier classes than a 3.2 that took hard classes.

Calm down! Besides, an IB Diploma is not supposed to be a walk in the park, it is more difficult than previous experience, BuT it DOES prepare for college/university later on. To share xp, I've had the same and worse. But in the end, it all came thru cause of "time management" and study skillz. And your survival will make you stronger for the difficult stuff ahead.
Have some gumption, fellow, it's all good.

I'm just not used to it, Was very different the year before. Englsih I'v got things like that also, like books with 400 pgs.
And, for those who know what the IB Diploma is, knows it's a lot of work, and a 14 year old kid, at junior year, doing that is stressful....

i suggest you go back to your old school, or go to a different school that doesn't rely on excessive written work to compensate for the inabilities of the teachers to teach.

Yes, i've learned far more in classes with minimal written work than ones where they pile on a dead forest's worth of cr*p.

if im right and IB - Int. Bacheloriat or however you speel it then dude.. this is only the beginning.. this is very hard.. but very worth it. it is SO highly respected nowadays man... best of luck to ya im still on holidas for another month!

For the unenlightened, what <i>is</i> an IB diploma?

An IB Diploma, or IBD for short, is a program which is very demanding. For those of you in the UK, it's like, twice as hard as A-Levels.

The IBD is a course, which is taken during Junior and Senior year at
high-school. It consists of 6 courses (two languages, one science, one maths, one humanities, and either one art or elective) and 3 extra ones called CAS (you need to have 50 hours of sports, 50 hours of comunity service, and 50 hours of creativity things, like plays), T.O.K (Theory of Knowledge. Kinda like a phylosophy class) and Extended Essay (5000 word essay on a subject of your choice). You need to do 3 subjects at HL, (which is the harder course) and 3 at SL (easier course)

The IBD adds up to 45 points, being 45 maximum and 0 the lowest. For each subject you can have 7 points, and your get awarded 3 extra ones by doing CAS, TOK and Extended Essay.

In languages, there is A1 and A2. A1 is a litruature course, and nothing else. A2 is a communacations course. There is also something called Abanisio, which is for people who only have one language, but need to learn another. Basic things.
Science has three main courses. Chemistry, Biology and Physics. However, there are other ones (but I can't remember the names <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'> ). HL science is considered to cover most of the things of freshmen year at colege, or at least the first semester.
Maths there is Studies, Methods and HL, which increases in the order of difficulty respectavly. Methods covers most of the basic things for freshman year at college, and HL most of the things.
Huamanities the same things as upove. The electives means that instead of arts, you can chose another subject of these three courses, like a second science or third language.

Not sure, but according to my history teacher, the amount of work given during this course is almost the same as the amount of work given during college. Not sure though.

And for those who know about the IBD, could someone just plz tel me if my courses are crazy things, and that if any normal person would take it, cuase my school thinks I'm crazy.

Yeah I have junior year in less than a month, I have been really slacking off in sophomore and freshman year, but now its time to get serious I guess. I am taking only one AP class which is AP US History, I had a choice to take AP Calculus but I will take that senior year. I finished my laguage so in place I get a second elective, I also finished all of my sciences (Physicis, Bio, Earth Science) BUT they still decided to give me Chemistry. I will be worried keeping my grades up as I am lazy beyond belief. To stop the stress I usually light up every now and then to hold my sanity but now I'm quitting (clean for 2 months wut wut). You can try to masterbate furiously.
