Is It Just Me?
<div class="IPBDescription">Ut2k4... NEW features?</div> <a href='http://www.infogrames.net/games/unreal_tournament_2004_pc_action/' target='_blank'>http://www.infogrames.net/games/unreal_tou...2004_pc_action/</a>
go there, there's a list of new features that will be in Ut2k4.
now, i just read through them, and a buddy of mine is really into the whole UT thing and tried to impress me with them. he said they would "change my mind." now is it just me, or does all that sound familier? hasn't half life done most of that stuff already except vehicles, which i know are hard with the hl engine. but honestly, since he has not done it, can some one here tell me exactly WHY they might be so pumped over the UT series? there's more than 2500 (25000? can't remember what all seeing eye said) servers out there, so obviously there are a lot of fans. so right now i feel like i am the only one NOT too enthused about the game. am i wrong in thinking this way? i feel like i'm the only one who doesn't like this game (except for the graphics... they're soooo pretty).

Isn't it fun to watch brand new games struggle to get in the same type of features that were implimented into a game from 1997?
Even better yet, they expect people to pay for a new game (ut2004), which is almost the same as another game(ut2003), to get these features...
And only what? 2-3 years delayed?
Like the 3d voice-comm, etc. New tweaks on HL features.
but thats my opinion

You beat me to it.
Even Halo is a two year late Tribes2. T2 did everything Halo did except the single player. UT2K4 almost seems like it is going for Tribesish gameplay. Maybe it's even designed to compete with Tribes : Vengeance which comes out in 2k4. (And also uses the Unreal engine.)
I still play the original unreal tournament, but thats because its the only fun one....rawr.
But again, they are REALLY pushing the modding community with a huge prize. With so many good teams up and in the running, expect UT2k3 to be the next "half life" as far as mods are concerned.
Not unless they get serious about modding. That 'Unreal Edit' scripting crap is fine for playing around, but without an SDK they will never have a real mod community. It's nice to see them making a vague effort though.
edit: From reading through that list again, the parallels with HL are pretty striking. But to be honest, the whole thing looks like someone milking a franchise with what amounts to the free HL 1.1.1.0 patch.
I was going to assume HL2 was going to be the next Half-Life, but whatever.
The only ut2k3 mods I'm looking for are The Opera, and Aut2k3.
Sound familiar to anyone else? They didn't even bother coming up with a halfway original name.
o Onslaught mode – a brand new mode of play that takes warfare to the next level.
But HOW? Christ, I hate these retarded non-informative marketing phrases. Given the fact that there are probably nearly as many HL2 mods in the works as there are UT2k3 mods, I'd say chances of UT2K3 becoming the next Half-Life are slim to none. Oh, that and the fact that the game just wasn't very good.
UT2K4 will never be on my shopping list.
a) They release the SP and MP games seaperatly for <b>$50</b> each. The SP portion isnt even fun.
b) They remove Assault mode, which was highly praised by everyone as being the best feature about UT. Then they take it out of UT2K3, then put it back in UT2K4. Another extra buck made.
c) UT2K4 is pretty much a $50 expansion pack, with a bunch of stuff that SHOULD have been in UT2K3 (Why the hell did they remove Assault mode?).
So pretty much they are doing what most DVD movies have done already: Release a plain version, then several months later release a Special Edition Gold Deluxe Enchanced Pack with all the features that should have been on the original DVD. Dedicated fans will HAVE to buy both DVDs or they miss out on the extras. They did it with LOTR and The Matrix, now its crossing over to games.
