<div class="IPBDescription">Suggestions neone? yes, I said PCI...</div> Stupid emachines didn't think it's customers would ever need an AGP slot.

Anyhow, I've just about had it with my little 5 fps firefights, so I've decided it's time to upgrade. I'm looking for a GOOD pci vid card that isn't too expensive. Any ideas?

[ARGH! I kept getting some sort of strange "email not sent" error everytime I posted, so I kept pressing post 3 times. I gave up posting, went to the off topic index and found that I had accidently posted my topic THREE TIMES! ARGH ARGH ARGH! Could someone please delete the other threads? Thank you!]

I hate to be like one of those "14 year old daddy pays for everything he wants" people (actually i r be 18 next week, and daddy doesnt pay for squat), but you need a new computer my friend. PCI and good don't go in the same sentence. Go AMD if you don't have a lot of cash, as for a AGP card if you want a cheaper one go for a GeForce ti4200, or if you can shell some more out a radeon 9600 Pro is good, or even more yet a 9500 Pro.

look online, its gonna be very hard to find a PCI card in a store.

then again, i think you should buy a whole new system. Emachines are soooooooo not meant for gaming beyond minesweeper levels <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

Build your own computer. It's pretty cheap. if you don't have the knowhow, get a friend whom you trust who does.

edit: i must reccommend <a href='http://www.newegg.com' target='_blank'>newegg.com</a> if you intend to buy computer stuff online. they are one of the <b>best</b> places to order from.

Wish I could. I know jackshit about video cards, so could anyone wanna give me a list of things I should look for/watch out for?

    P.S. I can't believe you took the time out to make that image... <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

    ...

ok, it was pretty damn funny. Shutup now.

I'll look around newegg, hell maybe even EBay.

I just want something decent (that can keep me around 50 fps constant).

My point is the forums just got destroyed as of today.

The forums have been like this for at least 2 days now. We all know there are problems, any jokes about it were made yesterday, and frankly that particular joke was not well constructed at all.

I'm anal retentive on pictures that TRY to be jokes. That was not a joke. Jokes have punchlines. Jokes are funny. That was just a misspelled word on a picture of a rather minor technical difficulty.

If you're really going to stick with that machine, I'd suggest this card:

<b>VGA PNY Verto GEFORCE FX 128MB DDR PCI 5200 DUAL VGA TV-OUT. RETAIL BOX</b>
    Specifications:
    BUS: PCI
    NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200
128MB high speed DDR II RAM
    Memory Bandwidth (GB/sec): 16
    Fill Rate (texels/sec.): 4 Billon
    Maximum 3D/2D resolution of 2048 x 1536 @ 32bit color @85Hz
OS support: Windows 95, 98, Me, 2000, XP and NT (all) display drivers

    <img src='http://images10.newegg.com/productimage/14-133-068-02.JPG' border='0' alt='user posted image'>

It will have considerably more power than the MX card MonsE suggested <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> Though it's listed at $106.00 on <a href='http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduct.asp?submit=property&DEPA=1' target='_blank'>NewEgg</a>.

Actually, I recommended the other one based on the fact that if he has a motherboard so old it does not support AGP, and he doesn't have the money to replace it, that he would want something cheap and viable on his old board. That card there is just not going to run nearly as well as it should on his decrepit old board. Too much data for that bus and it's going to be 50 bucks that could have gone towards some RAM or something more useful.

Naturally, I still think he should move past 1998 and get an AGP board first <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Nah!

I bought this comp a few months ago (1.2ghz)

I'm fairly satisfied with the memory/harddrive etc. It's just emachines never includes AGP slots in their comps.

Anyhow, I'll look for those two cards on ebay (save save save save save save save), if not, I'll just buy fresh.

omgomgogmogmogmgomg no more 1 fps with phase gates!!!1111oneone elven

ed: found some good looking cards on ebay, anyone wanna gimme suggestions?
BRAND NEW PCI GeForce 4 MX440 64MB DDR TV OUT: [cheap starting bid, but I expect it might rise quite a bit, but we'll see, there's also some other MX440s on Buy It Now at 50 bucks]

Did I say some? Eh, that's the only one I could find on ebay. THere's no way I can afford a 128mb card, 100 bucks is just way too much.

My girlfriend is in a similar pickle. She has gotten hooked on natural selection (or rather, hooked on the gorge, and fairly interested in the rest of the game <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> ), so I figured I would give her my old Voodoo 3 that I had lent to one of my friends until he upgraded. I go over to her house and open up the case, and sure enough, no AGP. This was on a dell she bought ~3 years ago.

We're not in the same pickle in that I bought a new comp that didn't come with an agp slot.

NEVER let your parents go computer shopping!

On a sidenote, the MX440 I was looking at has risen to 16 bucks. I pray it doesn't get higher then 40, otherwise I'll buy one of those 50 dollar ones.
