The Best Onus Upgrades

Yes, I said ONUS.
One's first thought would of course be REDEMPTION, as it basically makes you immortal. However, I've seen regen and carapace onus used very effectively. First of all, regen heals FOURTY FIVE (45) HP p/heal. This is very useful when you don't have that healing station to back you up. Next, I've found carapace to be pretty useful in taking out those ten turret farms, where as a redempt onus would have to run in 3 or so times, a carapaced onus could take out the entire farm (with some luck) in 1 run.
Also, I've found celerity to be the best onus movement upgrade. It makes it easier to retreat quickly and hunt down those HA that just won't devour. Adrenaline usually is quite useless as unless you're charging a lot, you won't really run out of energy that fast. Remember, onus are best used for guerilla attacks, taking out that heavy armor or two as he rounds the corner.
Sensory depends on your choice, but I think cloaking is damn useless for onus as you'd have to be blind not to notice that huge distorted shape standing in front of you. Not to mention any stray shot would have a high chance of hitting you, you monstrous elephant thing.
P.S. If you're having trouble aiming devour, try using permanent marker to draw a little dot in the middle of the screen where the crosshair would be. But shh... it's a secret :-x.

P.S. Redemption makes a v2.0 Onos nigh on unkillable.
For assaulting a marine position/ marine base, redemption onos is useless compared to regen or cara onos.
Thats why you see so many stand offs with aliens taking forever to kill marines -
-Its natural, who wouldnt want to ensure that they live as long as possible after spending 100 res which they saved right from the start for without helping the team.

Look, it's not "onus". That's a totally different word.
Regen: I feel that Redemption on the onos is too powerful (I am a full time alien player too) and carapace is just overkill becaue you still end up with around 300 health when clearing out an outpost with it.
Celerity: Onos are slow, nuff said.
SoF: If the gorge is doing things right, most of the map as sensory chambers anywhere I'm gonna ambush the enemy so I don't need cloaking and phermones looks useless.
Well, I'd say the Onos is on you to prove that...
IIRC, didn't Flayra call them Oni, or something that to that effect?

lol. Talk about "burden of proof"
And no it's not oni, they thought about doing that but it's still one onos and two onos (etc).
If they've got LMGs, then its Cara or Regen time so I can really trash the base. If its HA HMG/GL then its usually redemp since that way you're not relying on finding a safe hideyhole to rest (or good gorge def placement, another rarity).
Sensory its SoF or cloak. Cloak if I need to rest up in a safe spot, or if I'm catching the odd rambo with devour. Generally its SoF for avoiding the most beat up soldiers (IMHO my job as onos is to kill threats, and weak soldiers are not as threatening as a newspawned HA)...
i did that once when i accidentally evolved it, oh how fun that was
errrrm....Big scary thing that often gets indigestion problems.
Singular: Onos
Plural: Onoses, grammatically speaking; most any word that ends with the letter s, but is singular, when plural, ends in "es" like "Press - Presses" (not the verb but the noun, like a printing press or many printing presses).
if a word ends in "us" (like Cactus for example), it's plural would be Cacti ("i" being the plural of "us"), no offence to those who think it's really "Cactuses", but you're dead wrong.
Also, considering we all know and love them as the "Onos" Why on earth would someone spell them "Onus"?
You can take out any undefended outpost easily, and marines can't be everywhere at once. That's why marines eventually lose if a good player or 2 go onos early enough - just hit them in their weak spots, and they wear down till they're on their last stand at the main base.
With regen you just need to know when to fall back and let them come to you, because they will (unless they're on their last stand) then you just stomp + gore or devour if they have a big gun... take it away.
Just play smart with regen and stomp and I'd say it's by far the best upgrade for actually winning the game (in the shortest time).
It's oni, Charlie Cleveland says, "Oni", so it's oni!
Anyways, redemption onos aren't unkillable... And they're also kinda dull. However, if they have an ha train moving along, it's often your best hope (especially if each onos comes from a different side). Regen is nice against those pesky lmgers and jetpackers, where each one slowly pecks at you and you'd otherwise have to walk all the way back to base. Carapace is THE base assault choice, when you have twenty gazillion d chambers behind the wall to heal your fat arse.
Rest are self-explanatory. Though silence onos are fun if you're not worried about effectiveness, scare the SHIZNITZ out of marines.
That's exactly what I mean. I've seen a regen onus (you'll never change my habits ) do some amazing stuff before, mainly because of that insane heal rate. With gorges/DCs backing a regen onus up, it's near invincible.
Regen onus is also good against the HA train: stomp, devour, run. That way you can take out one HA per corner and come back each time at full health. Redempt onus isn't that strong .
BTW, the onus thing started with some guy accidently saying onus instead of anus. It's one of those had-to-be-there-to-be-funny-things.
And no it's not oni, they thought about doing that but it's still one onos and two onos (etc).

actually yes it is oni for more than one, you have 1 onos, and 2 oni.
Flayra himself said that a while back.
I normally go redempt, SoF, and celerity.
But after tryin a regen onos earlier ive found i like it a bit better.
Unless im against a group of heavies.
I haven't tried a cara onos yet.
Incidentally, I couldn't help but laugh like a stoned hyena when I thought of a Silenced Onos. I mean, imagine this scenario: you see a Marine ahead of you facing the other way. You walk up behind him, Devour, and walk away completely unnoticed.
On his screen, he's watching down an important corridor or something, waiting for a Skulk that he KNOWS is out there... when suddenly he sees nothing but digestive tract. Worthy of a "WTH", for sure. And maybe a stupid joke from the Onos, something along the lines of "Mmm, beefy!"
NOW imagine that marine is someone who hasn't seen or heard of Devour before. Heart attack, anyone?
Just shutup already, it's onus!

I actually use it sometimes, so I don't just have to imagine it The best was when a marine went hiding in that little vent above tram tunnel on ns_bast. I noticed him with sof when I walked below him. When I got to him, whe was so far in the vent that i couldn't reach him. So I used my silent devour and literally sucked him from the vent. "WTH, I was just cleaning my finger nails!" And once on ns_hera I cought a marine in the air, when he was just landing on the cargo bay lower exit floor. I had followed him with sof and silence from processing
it's pretty hilarious, I can tell you.

Incidentally, being redeemed by a lone LMG'er is embarassing, ESPECIALLY if you couldn't say "I was stuck on something!"
An Onos is hit and run much like all the other aliens. People let redemp do the running for them this is bad, onii are quite slow to mobilize but with celerity you can escape all but JP marines who you must take out before you are low on health.
Onii that die are generally make a mistake, you cannot take on a HA/HMG squad head-on. What I do is entice them by wandering about just around a corner, usually one or two will attack. Stomp and then devour one, you'll probably need to retreat a little to heal. Then go back isolate another few marines this time stomp and gore one marine (gore is still v quick). Repeat once - twice by now the HMG squad will be alot more pitiful and then you can take them head on. BUT remember you are expensive so don't take unessecary risks.
redemption cost: 2 res
number of times redemption will save your elephant sized rhino ****: unlimited (save the occurance of lag and a very unwelcomed death)
I just spent 100-104 res on one evolution, i consider redemption a 2 res insurance policy to make sure my 100 res purchase stays around for a while.
P.S. If you're having trouble aiming devour, try using permanent marker to draw a little dot in the middle of the screen where the crosshair would be. But shh... it's a secret :-x.

Why a "permanent" marker? SO you can ruin your screen?
just aim at their feet to devour, a little tip i read awhile ago that has 100% success in my own practice.

i used to go regen onos let me tell you regen onos's do alot more for their team than redem onos's. First of all, you HAVE
to kill alot of marine stuff/people otherwise you'll die, since they are usually pretty close in combat and will engage you.
So by necessity, you're expected to actually perform, kill alot of marines OR YOU DIE. This motivates good alien gameplay.
As a regen onos, I was able to stop a 8 man HA train with one gorge healing me. I killed every single one, they were all tightly knit and in our hive (our first hive). I was able to get off alot of bites especially when they would heal each other.
Anyways, if you're on a take back the hive mission redeeming onos is better since you will draw all the firepower they have on you, but if you're defending, you better go regennning onos otherwise you won't have a place to redeem too.
