<div class="IPBDescription">binding attack keys?</div> Can you bind keys for the different alien attacks?
To me leap and bite are a great combination. But scrolling thru to leap and then back to bite is highly ineffective to me. If you could bind a key to leap, it would seem to be alot easier.
Is this possible?

EX: For marines, right after I spawn, I switch from my LMG to Pistol and back to the lmg. When I run out of ammo for the LMG during a battle, I just use the "last used weapon" button. Or you can press the number keys on top of the keyboard.

There's no way to *bind* a key to a specific alien attack, but it's possibly to script the effect (unless Flayra's implemented something to prevent it). The problem is, a script can't replicate perfectly the effect you're looking for (they have a nasty tendancy of getting stuck or otherwise failing when put under stress, as often happens at a crucial moment.
The best compromise is to enable <span style='font-family:courier'>hud_fastswitch 1</span> and move your weapon keys close. I use the arrow keys, and my weapons are on mouse1, [, ] and \.

The results is not having to put a lot of stress on your hands when switching weapons. I find this allows for easier play, although takes a day or two to get used to.
Here's what to consider when reorganising your setup:
1: WASD or arrow keys?
Your movement keys are your highest priority keys (ie, the ones you use the most), so the starting point of any config is which keys you pick. WASD and the arrow keys are the two most popular choices, and are so because they are close together and are directional.
2: Priorities
Prioritise based on how frequently you use stuff. Highest priority is movement. Next is reloading and changing weapons. Next is voicecom. Next is chat and spray decal (just to give you a rough idea; this is only my opinion anyway). There's no point in having frequently used and\or important commands far away from your movement keys, requiring you to take your hand off them or stretch your hand out like a spider.
3: Comfort
As with the above: pick something which is confortable for your hand. For example, my TFC config used to have my grenades on k and l, resulting in my hand stretching out like the aforementioned squashed spider. Moving them to del and home was far better. While you want your keys to be close enough to reach easily, you also want them to be in some kind of sensible order, so that you don't have to tie your fingers in knots.
4: Intuitiveness
If you're going to move your weapon keys, move them in order. If you're going to use, say, op[]\ as your five weapon keys it makes very little sense to have ] as your main weapon, [ as backup, o as melee and \ as tech. If you've moved to a new game, (or, while you're learning the config) you won't be able to remember which key is what weapon. If they're in order (o is slot1, p slot2, [ slot3, ] slot4, \ slot5) you'll be able to work out far more easily which key does what.
Since NS 2.0 though im getting used to the WSAD (actually ZSQD on my azerty keyboard, but i gotta do WSAD anyways since HL STILL uses nothing else than qwerty.) and i must say its far more efficient, also since the weapon keys are very close to the movement ones.
because I always get crazy with my mousewheel to change weapon, I try with <!--emo&::skulk::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/skulk.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='skulk.gif'><!--endemo-->
Xenocide, when leap, bite bite bite and BOOOOMM!!!!
That really is hard to do, but 1 way to kill HA marine!!! <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/nerd.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd.gif'><!--endemo-->
