Aliases?

Ok some time ago I heard that there would be no aliases in NS. Is this right or wrong?
With aliases I mean stuff like you use in CS that you push F1 and buy a mp5 with that. In NS is no weapons buying I know, but I think there might be something you would like to use aliases for.
Maybe for upgrades as an alien.

    well, thats not nessisarily true ...

    What Flayra wants to try to acomplish is that the average player wont have to use the console ... ever ...

    Everything thats related to gameplay, he wants to make user friendly.

    However, for those die hard gamers, you _should_ still be able to create alias's and such .. but honestly - why would you?

    There are no weapons to buy ...

    only thing I could see one being used for is some kinda message bind.

    Yeah sure, as there is no weapon buying theres no real need for aliases. I just wondered.

    why not redoing all comands with a german command for that and stuff <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->:D:D, ok, this is crap so, you could do only duckjump, netgraph toogles and internet optimising scripts, but else than that i don´t think it will be needed to be done <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

    You can still create aliases. I use a few say_team commands myself. But the command interface is very simple.

    I have a few aliases for my 'favorite' (i.e. Only ones up) servers. That way I can type 'flayra' for Flayra's personal server, or 'linux' for the Linux build.

    Aliases are entirely possible.

    Grendel, you know that say_team messages don't have to be aliases, in fact you just bind them to a key.
    With alias I mean that you define new commands.

    But I think you know that.

    You can still write aliases if you need. I see little point though, everything can be done just as easily with the interface provided. Another good job by the dev team there. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

    Is the interface something akin to the VGUI in CS? Because I really hated that... it got in the way of things on the screen, and was too slow for me.

    Hmm, how I would have done it, and what it looks like from the screenies, you hit a key, and get a box, with 4 nodes hanging off.

    You push a movement key, and I think it moves to that box, and selects that node. More nodes pop off of that.

    I guess, thats how I would've done it.

    No. Definitely not the VGUI of CS or any other HL game.

    Sweetness. I am <b>very</b> glad to hear that. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

    I'm assuming that if u're like uber experinced and know the entire tree for the menu that u can pop off something with reasonable accuracy in 1-2 seconds.

    OH!
    /me raises hand.

    Eh, PTs, does the menu lag up if u have are getting actual lag to the server over 100, cause the VGUIs and radio commands for CS always take something like a second to come up if I'm on a server that's putting me over 100 ms ping.
    Basicly, does the menu have to wait for a call back from the server (I assume that's why the VGUIs have the delay, though why the would is a mystery to me) or is it all client side until you select a command.

    No, that's one of the things that Flayra was most insistent about keeping nice. The menu does -not- lag according to your connection quality.

    (I -hate- that in CS&#33<!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->

    Thank u good sir, that's good I hate it too, ecpecialy since it usualy happens on a server that reported a ping of 20 and gives me a ping of 150 when i join.

    Think more like 0.2seconds up to a whole second. As I said, its <b>very</b> well done, and very quick to use.

    well since there is no secondary fire key i was assuming hitting the second mouse button would bring up a little node and you could move your mouse onto a different node to make more options apear, basicly the exact samething that is in the game Sacrifice

    If so it works real well, once you get good you don't have to go from node to node you just remember the motion of your mouse, like in sacfifice if i did a little hook with my mouse it would make my go into skirmish formation

    Yep, on severs that don't give me false pings i grt between 50-70 ms, and that's with two other computers hooked up to the same DSL via a router. <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->

    Bah, I scoff at you all. Before I got cable and new speakers, I would play CS with 400-500 ping and no sound. And I still kicked @$$  <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->

    Yeh, I guess that's what the team is after <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->  Much better than the CS VGUI I think, although that worked kinda the same way; after a while of using it you just pressed keys without thinking or looking at what you were typing and what was on the menus.
