What Is This "fun" Thing Anyway?

I.e, what is fun in NS
To quote the great Morpheus from the Matrix (with one word replaced with "fun")

QUOTE (Morpheus Aug 11 2185 @ 12:27 PM)

What is fun? How do you define fun? If you're talking about what you can feel, what you can smell, what you can taste and see, then fun is simply electrical signals interpreted by your brain.

I couldn't resist. But anyway, my point is; what are the most "fun" things to do in NS? If we can pinpoint exactly what makes NS fun, we can (hopefully) ensure the fun aspects are never removed.

Personally, I think one of the most fun things you can do as a marine is be in a big squad of HA's and clump your way towards the alien's hive. The feeling of POWER (MWAAHAAHAAAHAA!!!) that you r teh invincible HA (!!!111one) that can own the ownos itself makes you feel goooood Even if you do get devoured 2 seconds later.

And of course, having a shottie. (or shootgun as the newbies have dubbed it)

As aliens, well, there are far more fun things to do tbh.

*Cloak as a gorge, put up an SC and build right outside their base, then laugth evilly as a squad of marines comes out of the base and is spiked to death by your beautiful cloaked OCs, MWAHAAHAA!

*Fadeing. What more can I say? Blink, slash slash, AAARGH!!! blink "WTH WAS THAT?"

*Lerking.... sometimes. Not so fun as it used to be tbh, the lerk can't be the guerilla fighter it used to be, but can still cause some serious mayhem with a few well placed spores

*Onosing. Need I say more? Devour is teh pwn once you realise the target must be in the CENTRE of your view, and ideally be stunned. Don't try and attack up a slope tho.... :/

*Skulking. Chuckling in the vents, hanging on the ceiling and waiting for the unfortunate marine who obviously wasn't trainned to look up, leap used to be fun, but now it has been nerfed for no good reason which I can see (i.e, the weaponswitch time is so huge you can't leap then bite like you could).

So what are your most fun things to do in NS? I just know someone is going to say something along the lines of "Well jetpacking was fun in 1.04 but now they nerfed it!!!!!1eleven", so just don't. Jetpacking was fun, and indeed still IS if you can do it right, but it was clearly overpowered. (yes it was! Don't argue!)

*edit* Got the quote fixed. Think of this as post 1.01 beta *edit*

IMO the second-most fun thing is winning with teamwork.

winning with style, with teamwork is by far and away the most fun thing for me.
(yes, i play to win, all the time.)

there is very little that satisfies me more than unifying into a rampaging mob of destructive force with my teammates and annihilating our enemies, bringing sweet sweet victory.

it only gets better when you pull out the knife or babblers (why'd they hafta remove em? )

    Me + GL = fun.

    Need i say more?

Hide in my vent will ya!? *Boom*

Also while disliked, mine + shotty rushes at the beginning of games are hularious, even if i'm on the alien team.

I love being Skulk or Gorge..

Skulk + celerity + regeneration + invisibility = one lethal mother ! charging down a hallway , when two marines at the far end are shooting like frenzic as you approach, while you jump and fall and strafe to the marker and wasting both.. something you've had to do before ya know how that feels

as a Gorge I love it when I just downed 3 basic marines that just exited their main, armed with nothing more then my spitgun and mapknowledge..

I love teamwork, but have found that in many games, the team IS you!
Greetz to all of ya who R teamplayers..

Lerking on ns_hera is fun. Sit in that vent near just outside their base for a while, sporing in, watching them thru scent of fear as they run around the base like disturbed ants. Wait for them to walk below you and spike them to death. Then, when they discover where you are and begin firing into teh vent, step back away from the danger and give 'em a few chuckles, and watch (on SoF again) as two or three of them crowd below, shooting in the vent. Then spore them a couple times.

But wait, theres more! Once you get another hive up for DCs (unless you get DCs first, it works then too), fly out of the vent to the platform area outside, then perch atop the glass hallway. You'll be set for some instant meyhem as you spike the res tower, then the comm pings the whole platform about 3 or 4 times (pretty funny to see). Then a marine comes out, searcing around the res tower, trying to jump on top of the crates, looking for the instigator. You spore and spike him to death. Chuckle for added entertainment. Then he rallies the troops and brings a couple of his buddies out to play. Spore liberally. Spike for added measure, and watch as a friendly onos thrashes their base as they sit there shooting at you, blissfully unaware of the demise of their last line of defence.

Actually i'd say the best setup for a skulk is silence + regen + SoF (or cloak if you don't have sens chambers all over the map). Just wait for marines to walk by, run up behind and bite em before they even know you're there. Regen your hp and repeat

A game won on really good teamwork... it's awesome.

Coordinating attacks to overcome another team working well against you.

You really get into the people and the team you're playing with.

That's the golden essence of NS

having the ponce scared off of me when I get devoured by the invis onos just SITTING in the middle of the hall

same deal with getting messed up by any good alien tactic

But for me the best thing I have had yet was:

    NINJA HIVE!!!!

Marines own Maint access (TF, Elec RT, Turrets, and a PG)
    we went SC - MC
I got inthere with silence and SoF
droped an SC, made the entire place invis
got the rez, built the hive and watched as skulks just kept pooring in no matter howmany they killed

base was down in about 20 secs

Theres a vent in hera that leads into the marine base?
Where is this vent.. I didn't even know there was one in the 2.0 version of the map..
Unless you are thinking the glass walkway is a vent...

Lerking owns though, I once had 5 marines below a vent shooting at me, 5/6 marines is pretty good I think
The eclipse vent into marine start, get 4 dc in the vertical part, along with 4 mc, and 1 sc, then just fly back if you need health Its a pretty fun place to be

Yep, it leads from a hive (not sure of the name, the one next to processing) to the marine spawn. Not sure where the other entrances to the vent are.

Yea, theres an actual vent there. Great fun for causing confusion and chaos. Find the holo room, walk to the little hallway between holo and hera recention, and just as you get into that hallway (coming from holo room), look up. There should be a grating, with one panel opened up. get up there, and take the vent on the left side. Also, if you go to teh room outside Archiving hive, ther is a vent in the wall on the first floor near teh elevator. That should lead into the grating as well.

And yes, this tunnel has allways been there in ns_hera.. though this time it got a bit restyled

one time even used it succesfully in reverse, after we took down their initial base.

their second base was a bilebomb away from the vent access and never had to show myself..

Fun = good teamwork. Preferably resulting in a win, but a loss can be fun too, if the team works together and still loses from stiff competition.

However, those magical moments are fun too... Like when you're walking along and get devoured by a silent onos. Or when you jump off the railing above Refinery (ns_mineshaft) because there's a fight going on, firing all the way down and getting the kill on the onos, landing on his corpse. Still, those are less reliable than good ol' teamwork.

Being able to play with your food is my form of fun In NS. Nothing Like slowly taking out marines from a group, one by one, teasing them, making them nervous, playing with lifts/doors nearby
And there is also being superskulk, IE running into a group of marines from their least defended flank, regardless how many there are, and just running around and biting "randomly" While adding a bit of leap here and there to close distances. Managed to kill 6 marines with this once.
In short, most things with the skulk for me = fun

That hive with the 'organic wall' that needs welding. Run into the room (With the elevator, and big computer pillar in the middle). On the lower floor is a vent. This vent leads to the hallway between reception and the holoroom. You're standing on kind of a grillwork. There's another vent that opens into the hallway right by the marine spawn. We almost wasted the CC going through there.

    the wins are fun

what other fps game or mod do you have to destroy the entire other team
and most of their structures to WIN 1 point for your team.

whether a rush or a long haul the wins are huge
    man what a workout

    Sensory!

Being cloaked, hiding in a room, watching a marine walk in, start to look around and BOOM! Decloak right in his face!

Lay in wait for a trap is the most fun, so many ppl never check behind them or have a crappy speaker system and can't hear the clink of the skulk running up behind you!

    Silence

Being able to go Gorge and build right next to someone while cloaked and they have no Idea till an OC spike hits them in the EYE!
