This is a request to the devs, to please re-enable the mp_friendlyfire CVAR, as we'd like some pub gaming with FF but without tourneymode (messes up the mapcycle too much).
I have a feeling others would like this as well.

For rines, say for example you have a group of heavies with shotguns moving to attack something. But a skulk runs up and between the players. Well, you're likely to lose a few heavies to shotgun fire, with all the players madly trying to track the skulk around and between them. Not to mention firing at a skulk partway behind a building.
The choice to be able to use this would be great
In a long drawn-out game with aliens having 2 hives, kill one of your hives yourself and rebuild it, to get the third upgrade chamber. Hey, why not? Sure, you're slightly vulnerable for 3 minutes, but you do get that third upgrade... Especially good if you went move and sens and need D to crack the marines.
Yeah, the option for FF without tourney mode would be great, I think. Not for the average unadmined pub, of course, but some servers could handle it.
I'm coming around to this being balanced as after an hour of marines building and aliens not getting any hives, its a stalemate
Most games of NS that I play end up like this :

Well... DoD (Day of Defeat) has FF on some servers.
And when I play DoD I usually pick server with FF.
Why? Because players who think before they shoot are in FF servers. 12 years old reaction bunnies stay on FF=off servers. When FF is on team has to think before they act.
Skulks can bite each others while chewing up a RT or marines can kill themselves in a corridor - if players don't think about the placement. I think that FF on pubs would improve gameplay.
It is true that some players wouldn't like FF and others would love it. Newbies would get more spanking from teamkills, but then again there would be more RTFM-shouts.
Perpahs players should be encouraged to think. FF is one way to accomplish this.
So, please give us FF on pubs.

Even in a very well regulated and nice pub you'd have big problems. Skulk rush on base? Half the skulks *bitten* to death. Someone stepped infront of the GL when he was shooting? The whole team dead. A squad of heavies get jumped by a single skulk that lands between them.. don't even want to think about it.
And that's just examples of *involontary* problems. Someone actually *wanting* to disrupt the game would have a field day. It is easy enough for people that want to ruin the others fun to do so today, this would be like giving nukes to a problem-child.
I'm pretty sure that you who are asking for it, if it becomes reality, will be back to FF off mode rather soonishly <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
Yet, with a heavily adminned server, adequate TK punishment plugins, etc., you can mitigate the negative effects a lot.
And a lot of people really like the extra challenge of playing with FF on. It's certainly not for everyone... but I'm just puzzled why they would deny us the simple ability to turn it on, in 'casual' mode.
